Thank you so much Barbara. I feel sorry for anyone who loses a beloved pet, but I feel even worse for people who have never known the kind of love a pet will give.

Sorry to hear that. Condolences

We will probably go through that twice in the not too distant future, my wife's Shin Zhu 'Toby' is 16 and my Irish Shorty Jack Russel Tara is 14. Both are past the average for their breed. Toby was full-grown when we got him, and the vet guessed he was about 3. Tara had just turned 1, born the weekend after Thanksgiving 2009 to our neighbor's dog. I got her in Jan when she was 7 weeks, fit on my hand length way and weighed 2 lbs.
Then we got Toby a year later when our niece's husband and kids found him tied to a parking sign at the park. A guy had been walking around trying to give him away.
I retired in 2007 so they and I have been homebodies together the whole time we have had them. Then Debra retired a few years later. When they pass I am going to be a wreck. Debra says, "No more pets. At our age, it is hard to take losing them." (the last of five cats died Jan 23). Every so often, we get to cat sit for our daughter's now one-year-old cat. We had Persephone for five weeks last spring while Jasmine was with a group from Medical School on a trip to Costa Rica to learn medical Spanish and work in a local clinic. We also had Miss Purr for a week while Jasmine visited another of the graduating class who moved to Italy. Now we settle for one or two days when they visit - Jasmine is doing her residency only 50 miles away.
Sorry if it looks like I am trying to take over your thread. The passing of your little one and the pictures got to me and caused a lot of thinking.
Sorry to hear that. Condolences br br We will pr... (show quote)

Thank you for the kind words. I am a wreck right now but I knew this was coming and I know we will never be ready for it. Give your babies a special hug tonight.

I am sorry for your loss. There is a song with words "what is grief but love perservering" I think this is true and hope will help sustain you as grief evolves into memory and the love remains.

Thank you so much. In my 86 years I have had a dog every single day (2 or 3 on a couple of times). You'd think I'd be used to this, but OH NO... It's still hard to see my screen through the rain.

We have a doggie door in the family room. They have their fuzzy beds and my computers, cameras, TV and stereo gear are all back there. It is where I am now, I am about to eat dinner while watching the news, then feed them (they are used to 9 PM) watch TV, read etc. til Midnight, give Tara her last heart meds(same ones I take but much smaller doses) and we all go to sleep until 8 AM for morning meds.

How really sad Jo, I feel for you...
I know exactly how you must feel right now, Lorraine and I went through it 50 years ago and I could never bring myself to get another dog.
I was just looking at some pics of our dear Harry and my eyes teared up after all these years.
I was going to add a pic but I don't like posting my pics in other people's posts unless asked to do so.
Take care my friend.

so sorry Jo. Had to do that with The Ghost Dog. Even though I now have Duchess she is not a replacement just like The Ghost Dog was not a replacement for Plato. What ever you believe they will all be waiting for us in our next plane of existence.

A friend of mine who is also a Psychiatrist told me that loosing a pet is second only to loosing a spouse. Hang in there Joe it will get better with time.
