We were in the north a month ago and loved it, no problems but we were always with a guide.
I have been to India a number of times and never had any problems, just take the usual precautions. If you're going by train don't leave anything unattended.
I suggest you take the camera that will give you the best pictures, the opportunities are very plentiful.
Leave your r6 home, bring your 60d & 18-300, and about 10 32g cards, change card every 2 days, so if you loose it, you still have other cards, and maybe a Fuji x50 as a back up and far shooting…
Thanks for all the replies. Took the RII and it was great. Now just have to organize and post process - a story for another time
Thank you everyone!!
It's been 9 years since I visited India, a beautiful country with incredible photo ops. My time was spent in Mumbai and another city several hours away, and I never had a problem carrying around my Canon 7D and various lenses, walking by myself, day and night. In fact, people were extremely friendly, with many asking me to take their pictures, then wanting to see what I just shot. But not all of India is like that, just like in the US and any other country. I encourage you to take your best gear, but as others have said, always be aware of your surroundings and walk with a purpose. If you're working with a tour operator, ask them for guidance. Research the areas you'll visit to see if crime is a problem there, and always ask at the hotel you're staying at. They want visitors to be safe, so they'll be very honest about where you should/should not go. Have a great trip and happy shooting!
