These round boulders, how were they formed? They came from deep down in a hole being dug for the new

They were probably...maybe a million or so years ago, in a river. Running water does a wonderful job of weathering over time. Also, looking at the boulders, it appears that they might be composed of a of a water-soluble mineral content maybe shale because they seem to be flaking off.

Look like pillow lava to me... They get that shape as lava cools under the sea...

They might be nodules that have encrusted a deceased lifeform millions of years ago. If you can crack one open you may find a fossil in it. The shale rock is a good source to search for fossils.

Looked like they where rolled around for a long time , glacier retreating over 10 000 yrs or more ago ???? . Could be left over from Viking bath houses .

I think sippyjug and others are on the track. They are, or are related to, ironstone nodules. This is harder sedimentary rock because of what I guess is a concentration of iron in them.
When a fossil is being formed in what will become shale, the organic remains l think leach out iron into the surround mud and rock, and that gets much harder. So when eroded or excavated, they come out as a round nodule, generally with a fossil inside. See for example: https://www.flickr.com/photos/blackcountrymuseums/5093108037

I would take these photos and description to the nearest University with a Department of Geology and ask them. Also, I would be quick as they might wish to obtain some before they are reburied in the construction process.
