Good morning UHH Readers:
I have a friend that likes doing Infrared, she has a Cannon Rebel she wants to have converted into infrared ready ability, I asked you before about Life Pixel, she tried contacting them with no response, this makes her nervous because she needs to send them the camera and $250.... she is not comfortable with this, since she cannot even have a voice on the other end. She read the article when it was discussed about Life Pixel are good, but don't know if they are still in business and so on.... Other suggestions? Who has dealt with them lately and had this done and were you able to make voice or email contact?

Can you help me to help her or do you have other companies that can do the same but ONE is able to speak with them.

I thank you all in advance for reading and trying to help!!

I stop to shoot!!

In POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY Dec 2011 they did an article on Authur Drooker who had modified a Canon 5D mark II for infrared photogaphy only, his camera was modifed by LDP in New Jersey (web site www.maxmax.com) I hope this helps.

Life Pixel is a reputable company and they do get back to you. They converted a camera for me. Digital Silver Imaging also does conversions. Deb Sandridge who wrote a book on IR and teaches IR at Better Photo recommends them.www.digitalsilverimaging.com/ir
also there's another company who I'm thinking of using for another conversion called Kolarivision.www.kolarivision.com
I looked at maxmax. they were very expensive. A conversion should be about $250 and Digital Silver Imaging is having a sale.

Before you spend any money try this. Aim your Tv remote at the lens of your camera and click some of the buttons. If you see the light flash from your remote you can use a number 72 red filter to shoot infrared.

converting a camera is a much better way to go. You can shoot hand held and everything works properly. Using a filter you need a tripod and compose befe applying the filter and there are long exposure times. By the way a good filter from Hoya is expensive.
I love shooting Ir.

Have a look on eBay. Search IR camera. There are a couple of places doing conversions, all have good ratings. Lifepixel is probably the best, but who really knows. The costs are from $105 to $250 or there abouts. The lower cost ones are for p&s and bridge type cameras. Not all cameras are convertable and some are really poor even when converted. Do some research. I found one place in NJ, that has a list of different cameras they do and what ones to recommend. You do know that once converted that it is then dedicated to do only IR. I found a Nikon 5400 bridge camera on eBay already converted for $200.00 and free shipping. I did the filter route on my dslr to get started and decided to take it a little farther and have no regrets. Using the filters require long exposures and tripod required. And a note on filters, if you are just trying to get the feel for it and don't know yet if this is for you, don't spend big bucks on really good high quality IR filters. (IMHO) Also remember some post processing will be required to get the shots to come out color corrected. I'm using raw therapee a freebee download that works really well.

I had LifePixel convert my Nikon D70, and it worked out OK. It took about three weeks and $250, and the camear was returned in perfect condition. I got their standard filter.

I also saw a thread a while back that sort of indicated that Lifepixel was in trouble? Somebody had tried several times to contact them and wasn't getting a response back. I never found any results concerning that but I would be a little leary until I actually talked to someone there.

I contacted them by email when someone here said they'd gone out of business.
They emailed me back that they are in business just very busy. I have called them numerous times with IR questions and they have always responded.
I would have no qualms about sending them my camera.
