Ms. VADA again with a historic addition. The silver fan she is holding is one of Carol Doda's* hand crafted fans that she used on stage at the Condor Strip Club in San Francisco. Carol was the first to dance as a topless dancer in the US and was an early user of silicon injection to expand her breast size.

The model Anita Oceane will be returning for a week long stay at my studio and she will be dancing at the Parlance Men's Club here in San Antonio, and will have the fan on stare to replicate classic 60's style top less strip dance.

* Carol Ann Doda (August 29, 1937 – November 9, 2015) was an American topless dancer based in San Francisco, California, who was active from the 1960s through the 1980s. She was the first public topless dancer in the United States.
In 1964, Doda made international news, first by dancing topless at the city's Condor Club, then by enlarging her bust from size 34 to 44 through silicone injections. Her breasts became known as Doda's "twin 44s" and "the new Twin Peaks of San Francisco".

Tim. You always seem to surprise me in a good way. These images of VADA I think are just an excellent example of capturing the young lady in a natural setting without just trying to pose for a camera. I really like her facial expressions and the way you captured just a natural setting of her just being herself. It is a whole new perspective about her and I really like these pictures you did so thank you for sharing with us.
And also, I love your descriptions about the postings you give also always informative.

WOW, that rings memories. I saw Carol Dodo, on stage, August 19, 1964. I remember the date because 3 days before, I got married and we were on our honeymoon. Starting off in Monterey, and then to San Francisco. I couldn't believe topless, and we checked it out. She was big!

I have often wondered if the capture of a facial expression should be credited to the photographer or the model.

VADA (my stage name I made for her), has a real presence in front of a camera. She has been involved with several indie type videos, but more importantly she has been on stage for professional theater productions, you see, she is an operate singer. She has a trained voice as well.

Funny thing, she was in an Italian opera. The costume people were a bit weird, they assembled two nun costumes for the dozen choirs, problem was that they were not easy to wear nor did the women enjoy going home every day to launder the costume, then wear it while the first was air drying. She was visiting my studio on the way to rehearsals and it came out about the hassles the women were having with their nun costumes.

I swear I'm not making this up, I took her into the section for costumes and there, from Party City was the box marked Nun. You got it, three nun costumes from the last Halloween season. As she git them out and was getting ready to put one on I got into a loose body cover and se got completely necked (remember, I have seen her bare so many times). She discovered the loose body cover helped to keep the costume clean and gave her all the cover she needed and helped keep her cooler and dry (they were wearing street clothes underneath, which is silly). Then I dug out from jewelry items, small thin chain, and black beads, and crosses. No good nun would dare be without a rosary and a cross.

That night I got a call from her, all the women saw her come in and put on her base clothing and the Party City nun costume and then the accessories. The director held up their practice while several of the women then ordered on line from Party City nun costumes and beads and crosses. The ladies were delighted and VADA got her three nun costumes for the play.

Of course that was never the end of the story. A month later VADA brought the Nun costumes back to the studio and I had a 'great' idea. We called up Jenny KNOX and a new theme was launcher, The sisters of mercy idea came into existence, here then are a few extractions from the series.

Both I feel. The model, well 'real' models are actually actresses, and it is the job of the photographer to watch carefully to see what the model is expressing, and then to follow her lead. Part of the way I work s to give the model am environment that they can fit into and then 'own'. Once that is occurring the photographer then responds to the sense of what the model is projecting. Language is also a vary important part of moving and shaping the event. Photographers speak to a model, shapes the energy and the model is in the moment, she projects herself while being formed and shaped by the speaking that comes from the photographer (a good photographer is in fact the director on set) just like in film productions or plays.
