I am looking for a different method to upload photo from the d500 and the d850 other than Nikon transfer. So I am looking for a fast card reader.
But my issues may be my Nikon transfers settings. I will check the settings when the desktop returns from getting som upgrades
Thanks

You probably want to consider your USB ports on your target computer. Type 3 is the newest and the quickest, followed by Type 2. Each of the generations is roughly 10x faster than the prior version, like 'super-speed 3' vs 'hi-speed 2' vs 'it works 1'.

It doesn't matter how fast your cards or reader, if your computer's port isn't faster enough to receive that volume of data. Your virus scanning software will also slow things down as each new incoming file is analyzed before being saved to disk.

I am using a Sony MRW-G1 which I bought used. It works well and heats up a bit, but not excessively. My dual XQD/CF Express B reader does not handle SD though.

If you are running on Windows & using Adobe Bridge you need to be aware of an issue. When you use the upload images utility Bridge will not recognize the reader as a source to obtain images from a CF Express B card (XQD is fine). The workaround is to open a subdirectory where you want the images to land and then use Bridge to navigate directly to the reader, drill down through DCIM, select your images and right click copy to (target subdirectory). Once you get used to it this works quite well and images transfer crazy fast. Adobe denies this issue is their fault because they subcontract the import function module to someone else, but it persists.

ProGrade with two ports (SD and CF Express) works fine for me. Not sure if it can handle a QXD card.

Exactly! We would need more computer specs to properly guide you. What ports? Thunderbolt3 or 4. USB-C? ??

I use two Sony Card readers, one has two slots for XQD cards and the other slot for SD cards. It comes with a USB cable. It has a USB type A cable 3.0/3.1.

The other Sony card reader is for my Z9 images on a CF Express card type B/XQD. It uses a USB-C cable that gets attached to a USB-C port on my computer. Model: MRW-G1

I use Downloader Pro Pro from Breeze systems to download my images from my D500, D850 nd Z9. It works on windows pcs.

B&H photo has a lot of card readers for XQD/SD cards. The Sony one I have is not listed. Maybe it is not made anymore.

As others have said, the ports on your computer play a big role in transfer speeds.
