Greetings:
Recently bought a Nikon Z6ll from MPB. It was listed “Like New” condition with the original packaging. I am proud to report it really was “Like New”……only 231 shutter actuations.
Now to the real story. I had used the camera several times at my grandson’s racket ball matches and loved the images. At Christmas I tried to use the flash indoors, but it wouldn’t fire. Tried the flash on my D-500 and the flash worked fine. Called MPB and told them of the problem and they sent a shipping label for the return. Today I received the following: “ It seems our return specialist team found that the item had been put into "silent shooting mode" which disables the mechanical shutter and prevents the flash from firing!”. They are returning it along with the SD card I mistakenly left in camera. Great customer service in my opinion.
I am now tasked with digging into the user manual in much more detail.
I do believe with technical expertise here, that someone at UHH would have correctly diagnosed my flash problem.

Yes, likely the UHH community could have pointed to the exact pages to review within the Z6II Reference Manual PDF download, given your problem. But, alas, this is the same UHH community that consistently demonstrates their belief in the truism: Success is the photographer. Failure is the equipment.

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Yeah, probably, because it's a very common problem. It happened to me with my first Z, a Z50, and I couldn't find the solution. I knew it was a setting, because it worked, then didn't. I asked on some Nikon group and they pointed me to the page in the manual. Without a lecture, I might add...

I watched a vid on macro photography & in the comments, someone mentioned that the Z cameras won't do off cameraa flash in the electronic shutter mode up until the Z8/9 which do. Not sure about the ZF. Hope this helps.

Chg, I remember a saying an old friend told me; Some people live and learn, others just live.

I like it, very pragmatic!

Oh the challenge of new fangled, hi tech devices. Early this year I bought a new plug in hybrid car. It came with auto dimming headlights which I really appreciate. After I picked her up from the first checkup I noticed the auto dimming headlights no longer worked. I thought about returning to the dealer then I remembered the saying RTFM. I dug into the poorly written 685 page manual. Lo and behold I learned there was a small switch low on the left side of the dash that turned on/off the auto dimming feature.

Earlier this year? You mean in the past 3 days? 😜🤪
I also bought a plug-in hybrid almost two years ago. Definitely one of my favorite “new-fangled” features is the auto dimming high beams.

My parents had a 1956 Cadillac that had an automatic dimmer. The sensor looked like a little torpedo on the top of the dash.

I feel your pain. At times my dog steps on the remote control and I have no idea what buttons got pushed. 😁🐾

Autronic Eyes didn't work very well, but improvements were made and they lasted I think, well into the 80s. They were originally available on the '52 Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs. I don't have that feature on my car, but I'm guessing today's computer-controlled version works a lot better than those from the '50s.

It worked pretty well. I remember my dad covering it with his hand to keep it from dimming the headlights earlier than he thought it should.

I was amazed at how well it works now. I was a little skeptical at first, but every time I reached for the dimmer it was right there with me. The really impressive thing is how good it is at differentiating between headlights and other light sources.

I have the auto dimming headlights in our new Mazda CX5 and never tried them at first, once I did they are fantastic! I have not had any upset drivers flashing back at me ever and in Oregon small town living we go from city lights to darkness in the country all the time. They are a new safety feature to help detect deer etc. crossing the road quicker or other hazards. I use it all the time now .
