I will preface this by saying the usual dialogue that if you dislike Trump, you must love Biden. That just isn’t so. Many of us, particularly those who have dealings directly or indirectly, held their nose when v****g against Trump in the 2020 e******n. It is the profound hope of many of us that both parties come up with someone new, that isn’t as old as Trump and Biden, and is looking forward rather than backward.
I’ve been pretty candid on why I dislike Trump. He left a swath of destruction of people’s lives in Atlantic City, plus his f**e charity, and f**e University. But that’s my reasons. There have been a lot of complaints in this forum on him being charged but not convicted, with the very American idea of being innocent until proven guilty. But that ignores the question of qualification. What I’d like to address is the seemingly overwhelming concern of key people that worked with him; not just people that are complainers, but the credible dialogue of people that worked with Trump, who have been threatened, career paths altered and so on.
On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, three women that were in responsible positions at the White House gave their thoughts on candidate Trump and it’s not pretty:
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/former-trump-white-house-insiders-call-2nd-term/story?id=105998679John Kelly (former Chief of Staff) and James Mattis(former Defense Secretery)were well thought of generals that have also given their views. Here’s some of Kelly’s comments:
https://thehill.com/homenews/news/521507-john-kelly-called-trump-the-most-flawed-person-hes-ever-met-report/ “The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the t***sactional nature of every relationship, though it’s more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life,” Kelly has told friends, the outlet reported.
Some of the above were also quoted in the following article:
https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/03/politics/donald-trump-former-allies-what-matters/index.htmlTwenty-four major insiders all saying the same thing, electing Trump to a second term is a mistake.
Another issue that has been discussed in this forum, was Trump’s mastery of Foreign Policy.
Here’s a direct quote from the very conservative John Boulton:
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/16/donald-trump-fool-world-leaders-00097103“I have been in those rooms with him when he met with those leaders, I believe they think he’s a laughing fool. And the idea that somehow his presence in office would have deterred Putin is flatly wrong,” he said on CNN Tuesday morning, naming the Russian, Chinese and North Korean leaders in particular.
NBC recently contacted a number of former associates of the Trump administration and only four were supportive:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-cabinet-endorsements-rcna96648Those backing Trump's bid for another term include former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker; Mark Meadows, his final chief of staff (currently under indictment in GA); former budget chief Russell Vought; and former acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell, who in June tweeted "Trump 2024" above a tweet from Trump's main GOP rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
If it were only few, I would say, that’s normal; but for all of these people to either avoid support or come out after working with Trump to say it is a very bad idea to support Trump second term should give one pause and seek an alternative.
My 2 cents.
