Nice photo! Great light!

I live in the Pacific Northwest. Washington State Parks flatly refuses drone operations from within their borders. Oregon State Parks continues to allow operations but is careful with certain protected areas and reminds people to be nice.

I looked up Custer State Park rules. They are very good! Other states should use them for a model!

(For the non drone owners, the FAA controls the airspace. Land owners control their ground and can prohibit "operations" like takeoff and landing.

We droners have to be careful and courteous just to retain our right to fly. Nice image.

as part of my job i also opted to be on the public safety drone team. i wouldn't say we intentionally break rules on the job, but occasionally we end up doing what's necessary to complete the mission and submitting any infractions to nasa later. but when i'm flying recreationally i'm very self conscious about whether i'm following all of the faa's rules.

west virginia's state parks started a pilot program where drones can be used during certain hours of the day. south dakota, wyoming and oregon are very lax with their state park drone rules.

I wouldn't say Oregon is lax. They are quite specific about good behavior from everybody ranging from the bird watchers to the bikers and now include droners. Rangers are expected to be involved and, in turn, expect good behavior!

by lax i just mean that they allow you to fly. most states are a flat out no from the start. i wasn't expecting oregon to allow drone use at state parks considering they didn't even let you pump your own gas until recently.
