... the people a few blocks over made a firework buying run to Mexico again.

25 minutes to go and they are warming up.

Would it be "mean" of me to wish for the PD to pay them a visit tonight, say just about now?

It stopped, maybe the PD did visit them. No such luck, there went another one. Our two little dogs are getting nervous.

It is official, World War III has started, it is midnight and no one could afford that many fireworks in this economy.

That or a Time Warp has taken me to the Western Front in France, 1918. If I go outside, I may meet my Great Uncle.

No. I know how you feel and agree! It rained early this evening. I hoped it would pour from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. No such luck but they waited until it got dark at least. My City Grover Beach and the surrounding cities are noisier with illegal firework than Pomona was. The Police here have Drones to patrol with, no Helicopters like Pomona. Hope some of my inconsiderate neighbors get fined and/or arrested. My female American Foxhound is scared of Fireworks, Gun Shots, and Thunder. We had her all doped up so all she did was shake this time. Our male just gets agitated and angry. We played loud music to drown out the War outside. It is now about 1:00 a.m., January 1, 2024 and seems quiet now. We will see when I try to go to sleep with the hounds!

I thought we were the only country with that many mentally ill people. 3 people died due to exploding fireworks. Firefighters, ambulance drivers and police officers were attacked with fireworks, while doing their jobs, some wounded.

Let's have a party!! Let's demolish the city and make sure the people taking care of us end up in the hospital!!

The cartoon's "New Year's Eve Blowout" description couldn't be any more accurate.

I heard a number of fireworks being set off around us on the stroke of midnight but they didn't last any more than 5 minutes. Our pets got a little nervous but I don't begrudge anyone a little celebratory noise.

Happy New Year, everyone.

We live in a time of hyperbole, exaggeration and excess.

Here where I live the fireworks start at sundown and go until after midnight. I don't know how people can afford all these fireworks and it happens every year, Christmas, New Years and Forth of July.

Last NYE we had a lot of fireworks around us. Probably about 15 minutes worth.

We moved.

This year, although we heard lots of fireworks on the fourth of July, there was silence last night. Or else I slept really well.

Our cat ignores fireworks. He's deaf.

One of the PD's in this area used to have an Ultra Light set up for night patrol. A couple of times over my scanner, I heard them say they thought someone was trying to shoot them down with aerial bombs and rockets. I think every patrol car, in every department for 5–10 miles around charged over there to hunt for those people.

Our baby, Jasmine, graduated from Medical School last May and started her residency/internship as a Pediatrician at a big hospital in Los Angeles County an hour's drive from home in mid-June. She worked on the 4th of July, Independence Day, and THE day for fireworks in the US. She saw so many children and adults hurt by fireworks come through the Emergency Room that in Dec when she picked which holidays she would work in 2024 she chose everything but New Year's Day and the 4th of July. Not only that, but she said if she wanted to treat people with injuries like those, she would become a military doctor. I am a Vietnam Veteran and our oldest, Michael, is an Iraq veteran and full time Cadre in an Army Reserve unit who gets called for active duty assignments frequently - we both told her not to do that. Some of our current adversaries/enemies seem to think the big Red Cross on a military hospital or aid center is there to mark it as a target.

I prefer butterflies, humbugs are too noisy for my afternoon naps.
