Hi everyone I'm considering up grading my stock lens a 18-55 and a 70-300. Neither lens has IS.
I already have a canon l 70-200 f 2.8. And a canonL100-400 4.5 lens but I need something ican use for general work , a little bit of macro. Eg flowers etc. and port orates and so on.
Please all suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Hi, I shoot with a Canon 50D. My walk-around lens is a Tamron 18-270mm zoom. It covers all of the lenses you have in your bag for day to day shooting. I just bought a new Canon 100mm 2.8L Macro lens. I'll be using it for portraits, flowers, bugs and any other small things. Using it for portraits gives great Bokah, and sharp subjects. You have to either back up, or move forward to the subject as it is a prime lens. It will focus to infinity, if you select that option on the lens. I is a IS lens, and that is great if your going to hand hold it while photographing.
This lens is a Canon "L" lens known for high quality optics, and renouned for sharpness, speed, and focus. I think with all those zooms, you may want a very good prime.

Thank you Bill, I have been thinking of that lens was not sure if it would be too far away. How are you finding this 100 m lens... I tried a 24-105 but needed the 400 more. A Prime sounds a great suggestion .
Thank you everyone

I just got the lens last week. I've taken a few photos with it, they all came out crystal clear. I went hunting for bugs, but I think it has been a little cool here now. I've been laid up with a foot injury for a few months and am just getting about now. This 100mm is the prime lens I'm using. I have the 50mm "Kit" lens that came with my camera, but it take some only marginal photos. I'd get that 100mm macro soon, as the price is going up on Dec 1.

love a 24-70F2.8. awesome for portraits and weddings. They have a new one with IS but haven't heard anything but it is expensive!

Very good recommendation. If you want to save some money and like a wider angle, the 17-40mm f/4 will do the job as well, but I agree with dasloaf. The other lens I would recommend is the 24-105mm f/4.

I agree, I shot with the canon T2i and my walk around lens is a Sigma 18-250.

Hi, you could'nt do better than getting a 100mm F4 macro, or the expensive
180mm macro; either will what you want, and you kill two birds with one stone !

I also have the Canon 100mm Macro f2.8L lens and it is a nivce lens. A great macro lens and you can certainly use it for portraits, as long as you're willing to use your feet and can be a little distance away from your subject. Another option might be one of the 50mm lens (Canon have two reasonably priced options the 1.4 and 1.8). I have the 50mm f1.4 and like it so far (only had a couple weeks)

I just recently bought a Canon 50mm 1.2 and I love it. My next purchase will be the 100mm 2.8 IS Macro. A lot of folks are suggesting that for you. I agree!
But for shooting flowers that 70-200 you have is awesome.

I was born in Melbourne. I guess that makes us kinsmen. :D Good luck with your decision!!! peace...

And do you strap them to the fender of your car when you get them? :D
