When I last opened LRC some of the folders were grayed out and indicated 0 pictures. It’s as if LR now can’t find them. Not happening to all folders. Just some. All folders and pictures are still on my external hard drive, backed up on an additional hard drive and backed up to One Drive. Any ideas why all of a sudden LR doesn’t see the folders and pictures? Also, my One Drive account is full and will not back up. What is best cloud backup? Backblaze or others? I use Windows 10. Recent ads for Windows 11 seem to indicate it will offer cloud backups. Is it worth looking into?
Try closing Lightroom, unplugging the external drive, rebooting, plug the drive back in and open Lightroom. I'm guessing Lightroom has not lost your files but that your computer has lost its connection to the drive.
Can you post a screen shot of the folder part of Lightroom? There may be clues. Do you do catalog backups?

Perhaps you moved some folders outside of Lightroom, so LR doesn't know they've been moved?
Check your source drive for your images. I use two externals where some folders are on one drive but not the other. When I open LrC, I check which external I’ll need to use.

Greyed out means you have already imported them, somewhere. You may have moved some outside LRC. Also, you may have imported to OneDrive, not the external drive. Windows 11 tends to want to send everything to OneDrive on my work PC instead of C: drive (I use Apple at home). My last desperate try would be to import again, using Add to Catalog and allowing duplicates.
They may be on a different external drive. Check the source.

Is it possible the drive letter of your external drive changed? Check LR to see where it thinks the files should be and make sure it matches the actual location.
Actually rethinking what you said about greyed out and showing a count of 0. That wouldn’t happen if they had been moved or deleted outside of LR. Greyed out folder and 0 count indicates they were either deleted or moved to another folder from within Lightroom. If you look in a folder in Explorer and it contains images and that folder in Lightroom is greyed out and contains 0 images then those images were either never in LR or they have been removed from LR.
