Waking The Elderly

Well, maybe not. His exhaust wasn't too noisy.
He was looking right at me. Zoom right in to look at his eyes.

The photo's title is because this is a quiet suburban street and the scene is right outside a retirement village. And it's only two minutes' walk from my house. I shoot a lot of photos in my own suburb - when you look you always see.

I very rarely crop my photos. Instead, I always try to frame it perfectly and avoid 'distractions' in the frame when I take the shot. However, in this particular photo's case I rotated it clockwise in Photoshop a little bit more to give the motorcyclist more of a lean into the bend. (I had no time to think in advance, the motorbike arrived on the scene without warning and I had to react very quickly indeed to get this shot.) So after doing the extra rotating in Photoshop later on, there was some cropping required in this case. This idea to 'lean the photo' (or to 'rotate' it) came from a very old book I have called "Composition in Photography", though I have applied the concept before I ever acquired the book. It's a great way to add some dynamic feel to your still image. (In the book, the example photo they use is of a stationary steam train, but it appears to be a moving train due to the added photo rotation from the level original.) I bought the old book at a Red Cross fundraising used book sale some years back for a mere $2. I tend to refer to the book more for when I am making suggestions to other photographers about composition as I have a pretty good handle on composition myself already - so I like to think at least!...

A nice image but I'm not seeing anything worth the effort. I'm lining the motorcyclist up with the trees and the houses behind and it doesn't look to a dramatic lean at all (to me).

Perhaps on a circuit or a more urban background where we might lose other 'upright' structures it would work better.

Thanks.
It's not a planned shot, at stated, nor is it on a circuit, clearly. Yes, they go faster so lean further on a circuit, and on the open road too. However, those in the know will know what the value in this photo is.
I know a lot about good composition, but I won't pick a fight over it. Just ask any of the great photographers from UK if you wish to learn.

P.S. The full hi res image is much better, the subject is not at all lost in the full res, but I am not posting it on this forum. It reminds me, though, of a very good photographer's comment one time about his photos not doing very well in online competitions with relatively low res images. However, in real life, and with 'real photos' (big prints)', he won with the exact same photos all the time.

Nice shot.
Great for being so impromptu.

At least it wasn't a Harley - they wake the dead. Never saw the point.
