I noticed that some photo workshops suggest specific tipping for their leaders while others don’t mention it. What is a general etiquette regarding tipping? Thank you.

It seems more and more people are wanting tips these days. They should just charge what they need to.

20% of the trip? If it is a $10,000 trip do you tip $2,000? Many on the trips I have done do around $50 per day. In Africa the total is less than $50 per day. $20 for the driver, $15 for the camp staff per day. The owner of the company, lady, I go with does not accept tips.

Interesting to know what others do.

I agree. The companies that hire guides should pay a reasonable wage. Tipping can then be on top of that if they do a good job.

If I pay for the workshop, absolutely NO tip period.
I don't tip except for sit-down restaurants where you are waited, valet, and a couple of other things.
Tired of this stupid tip for nothing.

I've been on 2 - one through Muench and one Backcountry Journeys. BCJ specified a tip amount (which I really didn't want to pay). Muench didn't even mention it!

Entrepreneurs should charge to make a reasonable profit, the rest should be VOLUNTARY with no expectations other than for extraordinary service!!

I've heard Back Country recommends a hefty tip. My feeling is--if you are paying for one of their trips, the leader is their staff and should be paid accordingly. Tipping should be optional and not an additional percentage of the original trip cost. I won't travel with a company that does this.

I consider the price of the workshop to be the total amount expected. I have never tipped for a workshop and I have never seen it as a suggestion. The tipping has gotton out of control!
