Okay from the looks of it this canyon--Bull Trap Canyon--has been around for at least a couple of years, but evidently it's been just beyond my wandering range, though barely. It's difficult to reach but then you can explore for a long way in either direction. I headed south because it hooks up with another canyon and the topography looks promising, though I didn't get that far; on occasion I remind myself of my age, the season, the length of the day, and the fact that I have a tendency to really hurt myself. So this hike, out and back, was just over five miles, enough to get my feet wet except that there was hardly any water. I set up a trail camera and got a few photos along the way. I have more dramatic ones on my phone, so there may be a second post.
In the near future I hope to approach this area from the south, where the elevation is lower, and head north. There was a beastly climb and descent of a ridge which I'd rather avoid. We shall see how it all lines up. Anyway, this was my Christmas gift to myself and there is much more of it to open.
I wish for all of you some very fine adventures in 2024.
Congratulations on your new find.
Beautiful if rough area nicely shot. Do you take these adventures alone ?

Thanks! I've lived in this area since 1987 and there's no excuse for boredom.

I do. I like being by myself but more to the point, no one else WANTS to hike with me. Even Ted thought I was nuts.
Very pretty canyon. And it looks like you won't have to carry water. At least not anytime soon!!
Looking forward to photos!

Let me set you straight. I don't carry water for more than a mile or so; my shoulder is too messed up (partly from falling backwards from a boulder onto my outstretched arm while carrying three gallons of water). And anyway, just over the beastly ridge and down the next hill is a nicely flowing stream.
Downstream from these photos, where this canyon meets another, I understand there are some impressive waterfalls (impressive for around here but of course they require water). That's where I hope to end up, with my wide-angle lens. If and when I do, you will see the results. Thanks for looking.

Thanks! That's seven out of ten. That pool was great. I looked for a good tree to strap the trail cam to but of course there was nothing, just willow shrubs.
I hope you tell someone where you are hiking. Beautiful shots.

I do, and a friend has me on her map as if I were a teenager. I usually tell my housemate in detail where I'm headed. But it's a vast, often rugged area. Thank you for your concern.
