Only those who meet the criteria.
Didn't bother me in the slightest!

Well said!
It's not the gear, but the photographers vision and creativity that create a powerful, memorable image. Enjoy the gear you have.

I agree that divided into paragraphs would be more readable, but can’t you think of a nice constructive way to say that rather than be insulting? Do you speak that way to people face-to face? Uncalled for.

Sure... "A suggestion - Paragraphs would be easier to read and follow.". No rant needed.

Not just to me, ask good knowledgable mechanics and professionals - they’ve known that for a long time - it’s not new news. Have you done a LOT of serious mechanic work (such as rebuilding engines)?

Nope, not a lot, but enough in the years gone by.
The only thing I had not last was a turn signal flasher, six months. I forget in what country it was made.
Maybe if I did a ton I would have had more problems (increased odds).
"Serious work" I let my mechanic do. They wer good and I trusted them. Sometimes it was OEM, sometimes not.
Nope, never rebuilt an engine, never had to do so, never did it for fun.

How can I do anything but agree with this? I am a retired schoolteacher and that automatically spells "cash careful."

So I buy my lenses used. And I have become a fan of what are quaintly known as "vintage" lenses, which means my bag is filled with glass that 20 to 40 years old. I can buy these at about 10 cents on the dollar.

Used camera bodies can be had from reliable retailers such as KEH at substantial savings. Granted, they will be a generation or two older than the newest models, but they still can take beautiful photos.

And not everyone needs a Gitzo tripod. My Benro is about 10 years old now and just keeps going.

For those who want quality post processing but can't afford the cost of a software program or Adobe's subscription program, there are several excellent open-source freeware programs.

In other words, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy this hobby without draining your wallet.

Good professional mechanics guarantee their work, and the last thing they want is to have to do the job again because of questionable parts. OEM doesn’t always have to come from the dealer and pay their markup - it can be a reputable distributor for the manufacturer of OEM parts such as Bosch for example. Just like anything else these days, you have to be careful of the source so you don’t get counterfeit parts - you generally get what you pay for.

Apparently not as many have agreed with him.

Being tough skinned, it doesn't bother me at all.

Pointing out how much meanness is on the stage sure brings out a lot of meanness

You must be totally tone-deaf to make such a post in reply to someone complaining about meanness on the site. You just made his case.

I've trusted my mechanic for 15 years, whatever he uses. Never had a problem. I never ask. I just say thanks! and pay him. It's nice to have a mechanic I can trust.

Trix, although the individaul to whom your were responding was a bit harsh, remember the OP was a bit harsh himself on a particular group of UHH posters.

And it can be argued that posting such a long piece without paragraphs is also rude, no? Kinda like folks using all caps....

I'm not saying that. It's just less effectual.
