Here is a good one for you... on the back of my official Canon battery LP-E17 that came with my r50 is supper tiny print at the bottom it says.... Wait for it....... MADE in CHINA.

And most people would want you to believe that products made in China sucks....

I haven't seen Li-Ion battery that is not made in China.

My experience has been the same. The one single exception has been a Meike grip that came with a used D500 which I bought in October. It seems so far to work as it should.

I'm having to learn to be happy with third party EN-EL3e batteries in my D90 IR camera. Those seem to have been discontinued by Nikon.

What would be the downsides of using non-Canon bat... (show quote)

I have used generic batteries for more than a decade in my D500, D810, Sony A7RIII, and now my Canon R5 and R7 - Wasabi, Batmax, BM, kastar, you name it; they all worked, with no problem

I'm happy that generic batteries provide acceptable service to you. They have not done that for me.

I have seen, on UHH. where some have not had a good experience; there's question of whether a camera warranty could be voided because of the use of a generic battery. However, courts, decades ago ruled that you didn't have to go to a car dealer for an oil change, so I suspect generic batteries should be ok.

Happy New Year, regardless !!

I can't say anything about the R10 but I will say I only use batteries that I got on Aliexpress and they all have a far greater amp hour life than the very expensive name brands.

I'm sure all of the "off brand" names you mentioned are fine, I only have experience with Lenmar which just as good as the OEM that came with my camera.

Thank goodness my T1i doesn't care in the slightest.

Nasty that manufacturers put stuff in the batteries and software in the cameras to eliminate the use of non-OEM batteries. "You MUST use OUR batteries.....".

I have several non Canon batteries. I found over time that they would build a block where they wouldn't charge pass a level. I have since purchased 2 more batteries for my EOS-R and don't have problems.
