This image was taken from the High Line. Some of you may not know New York so I'll explain. It used to be an elevated freight line that goes along the Hudson River in Manhattan. A few years ago it was turned into a park. It is about a mile or more in length and is full of interesting view of Manhattan from an elevated platform. I took the photo with a Nikon F and a 50mm lens from about the same time (late 1960s to 1970). It is not tack sharp like a modern lens might be. On the other hand, I like the look that that combination of lens, camera and film gives the photo. I like it, maybe some of you will as well.

Like this image very much Erich.

Nicely shot Erich. I've never been to NYC but B&W seems like the best medium for capturing the City

If you are in Times Square at night, you want color. The lights and the frenetic activity of that area probably would not come across in black and white. This is a quieter part of the city which is largely residential and does not have a lot of colorful signs and neon lighting up the scene. For this area, you are right. Black and white is perfect. It also helps that I really love shooting black and white film and so I tend to find scenes that benefit from that kind of photographic treatment. Glad you liked the photo.

Thanks. Much appreciated. Glad you liked the shot.

When I worked in NYC I was working on the eighth floor of the building. My pod was by a window that looked out onto the High Line. There were always countless number of people walking it. So I really like this image because it is not a normal scene I would see.
If the modern cars were not on the street you might think you were viewing a 1950’s street scene.
I thought of getting rid of the cars; but I think they belong there. I can't remember when the High Line was turned into a park. Do you remember?
Erich
I like the solemnity presented here.

Not sure of the exact date but I believe between 15 to 20 years ago, when they first started. About 10 years ago they expanded it to what we have today.

Thanks. 10 years sounds about when I first became aware of it. I've been there quite a few times and I always enjoy the walk from slightly above street level.

It has the feel, for me at least, of some of the photos from black and white film from days gone by. Not that I'm going to put myself in the same category ; but the photo does seem to have that feel.

Thanks for the link. Glad you enjoyed the photo. I'll be checking out the link.
