Nikon Z8 and flash

For the Z8 users, I've run into a situation that I could use some help with. Over the holidays, I did a lot of flash photography. I use the Neewer TT 560 Speedlight. One of the things I really like about the Z8 is that the viewfinder image will adjust as the camera settings are changed. But you don't want that when the camera is set at 1/160 f4 in a poorly lit room. The viewfinder will look pretty dark. I got through it ok and got some amazing photos of my family. Yesterday, I called Nikon USA and spoke with a person and he directed me to this site: https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z8/en/csmd_view_mode_photo_lv_guid-a583e41c-e946-ee33-51c2-0bbc8f7a2cc1_209.html. It explains how to change settings within the camera so that the viewfinder will show the effects of settings only when flash is not used. However, that does not work on my camera with the flash I use. Are Z8 users finding that this setting does work? The person at Nikon suggested that the flash I use is not compatible with the Z8 settings, even though the flash does trigger when the shutter is activated. Maybe I just have to buy a Nikon flash? I would appreciate any insight. Thank you.

Set CUSTOM SETTING MENU d8 Show effects of settings to Only when flash is not used. You also need to change Adjust for ease of viewing to Auto. You should then be able to toggle Flash Mode off or on in the Photo Shooting Menu whenever a flash is attached. I have this assigned to my iMenu for easy access.

I don't think you'll be needing a new flash.

The Nikon Creative Lighting System requires a compatible Nikon flash. More info is at this link:

Other flashes can work on a Z body but not all features will work.

If you are a heavy flash user, I sugget you get the Z8 guide by Thom Hogan as he has a whole section on flash.

I followed gmar3180 advice and now I can see a "lit" picture in my viewfinder with my Godox V-1 on top of my Nikon Z8. Thank you gmar3180 for the good advice.

I use the Nissin MG60, It claims that it is supported by Nikon.
I like 2 things about it:
(1) It has a movie light built in.
(2) You can increase the brightness of the flash when it is in TTL without having to go back into their Menu.
They may have a newer version.
I am 80, so it is heavier then the SB-500 that I sold, I still kick myself for selling it, LLOL
