Who can be silent and allow a child to be turned into a DSLRinosaur?

People who value what a SLR can create?

And those who apparently don't want to remember they also started off as a child with a dslr, or an slr, or something even less glamorous.

The Wheel of Time turns, grinding DSLRs into dust, leaving memories that soon become legend, where not even the Wise of UHH can still remember the technical details.

If you'd like me to record the voice-over work for the video, just PM.

Her project could lead to not just a contagious interest but also a contagious appreciation of what's now available to photographers. Even a few hundred dollars can get us image quality that surpasses the best of what film had to offer. We now have at our disposal the means to achieve better, easier and faster results. I suspect that appreciation of good image quality is a key factor in our development of our skills set.

I learned a lot about composition simply by using my Kodak “Instamatic 100” {film} camera, then thinking about the results.

I looked a bit, but couldn't google the exact response. Memory serves of still subscribing to Sports Illustrated when they produced an issue where every image in the mag was from digital cameras, a first for them. It's got be around 2001-2003 based on this photographer's memories of his SI work, recollected in 2011.

So, you've permanently deleted all those past dinosaur and DSLRinosaur pics and technical details from all your albums and all your accounts, then.
The deleter dumpster builders appreciate the business, no doubt.

The teenagers will get it: It's so easy to go along, to follow the crowd, to go mirrorless ...

Is that why people go MILC - too much ‘follow the leader’??

The fact that these teenagers are doing serious research is a most hopeful and encouraging situation.

.... and there's nothing more important. However, composition is all about the resulting image, as opposed to the process of capturing the image. We determine the content and our cameras provide us with the means of capture. The real "turning points" that are the subject of the project are the ones that enabled or facilitated better capture. As you point out, your camera doesn't need to be anything special to make it suitable for learning composition. In fact, the simpler the better, or put another way, the less distracting the better. That's why I don't have any reservations about recommending fully auto to beginners. Getting good captures is obviously important, but learning composition is REALLY important.

Learning comprehensive composition would be a realllly big turning point for some who have been selecting their "turning points" by just switching to newer and newer cameras for decades.
Hopefully, some others of us who have not been in this since our youth, because either we had no opportuniy or the bug hadn't bit us, can grasp and never lose grip on the need for composition over the whims and bling bling of gear fad.

I think the unfortunate truth is that anybody can end up with a blindness for the importance of composition, probably because the technicalities of capture are more tangible when it comes to learning photography. As a consequence the technicalities become the focus of courses and other learning procedures. Composition is more elusive and not so widely understood so it's not so easy to find good learning material that's easily understood.
