Has anyone got their RF 200-800mm yet?
If so how is it?
Just watched a couple of field reviews and it seems to be well received.
Come spring it should be a great wildlife option.

I have my 300-800mm f5 6 sigma and love it. So I'll assume that the canon will be better so you should love it too.

I watched Jan Wegner's extensive review and was impressed with the images, especially resolution even with extenders. I like his reviews because 1. he always points out any deficiencies and 2. he is all about shooting birds which is what I mostly do with long lenses. At 1899., it's very tempting. I think there could be a long wait if you order it now. I ordered the 135 1.8 1 day after it was available and waited 5 months to get it!

Wow, good to know
Sounds like this will be a hot lens and tough to get.

A good real-world use review by pro Jan Wegener: No lens is perfect on all Canon bodies, and that includes the very good Canon 200-800mm. There were some Autofocus and Image Quality issues, but overall a very good lens.

I just received my 200-800 a few days ago, but due to the holidays, haven't had much time with it yet. A few observations of mine:
1. It is big, but not overly heavy. It comes with a strap and the lugs are on the tripod collar.
2. Focusing is blazing fast, and locks pretty quickly.
3. With very little time with it, focusing at 800mm seems to have a bit of trouble always acquiring focus. If I find a high contrast edge, it locks and then refocuses quickly. There is no focus range switch on the lens.
4. It has a cool ring to adjust the zoom tension. Works really nice.
5. The tripod collar does not appear to be removable. It locks and swivels.
6. There are two non-labeled buttons between the tension and control ring. Can't find anything about them, even on Canon's site.
I will try to get a few shots in after Christmas and post here. I'm using the lens on a Canon R6 (Mk 1) body.

Good observations.
I believe that those buttons are programmable to your choice.
Page 6 of the manual for the lens explains how to use those buttons and their default settings for AF limits.

Thanks Architect, the first time I searched Canon support, it didn't show a manual, but now it does. Very useful. The "paper" that came with the lens was pretty much useless.
It turns out those 2 buttons perform the same function - they act as a focus lock. So almost like back button focus. When you press one, it locks the lens from autofocusing and can be enabled while pressing the shutter. And yes, they are programmable to other functions, but not separately.

Thanks again.

GWilliams6--The AF issues were mainly with the R7 which is known to have some issues anyway. It looked like AF worked really well on the R5. The quality issue that gave me some pause was when he photographed something against a very bright background and got some "bleeding" or haze on the subject. He theorized it could be the result of not having low dispersion or coated elements that are found in L glass.

Did you see he plans to do a comparison with the RF 100-500, Sony's 200-600 and maybe Nikon's zoom too? I already have the 100-500 so I'll probably wait to see how it compares head to head.
