You guys heard from me earlier in the year with my 2nd MBP from mid 2014.
I fixed the lack of internal fan operation by buying a large 6 fan platform the laptop sits on. Its just a bit drafty on my wrists working with the old klunker like that....the fanned air has to go somewhere after all !
However I bought a new MBP 16" M2, 16gb unified memory (RAM) and 512 gb SSD.
It works wonderfully and now am considering getting new photo program (PS of Affinity) and plug-in filters.
There is definately a new learning curve after 8 1/2 years with, what I call my MBPro2. The new guy in MBP3.
Just a quick update !

The new M chips seem great... My iMac M3 just arrived with the same upgrades as your laptop as far as memory and SSD drive. Very fast. I too am getting set to download new versions of old trusted software. Good luck with your laptop.

Good move! You won't be disappointed. If you don't want Affinity Photo, the Adobe Photography Plan for $9.99 a month is great. Lightroom (cloud connected version), plus Lightroom CLASSIC (traditional desktop version), plus Adobe Bridge, and the full Photoshop. I just use Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. I don't use the small amount of Adobe Cloud space they provide at that low level.

Wise move, going for 16GB memory and at least 512GB storage. I wouldn't buy less on any Mac. Developers will soon use more than base models can support. Some applications already want more.

Yeah, I was trying to look ahead a little bit... My better half is VERY well satisfied with her M1 after the windows fiasco but she really doesn't run too much but a few basic number's spreadsheets and social media, internet browsing etc... I am going to give Lightroom another chance with the latest photoshop bundle and get some focus stacking software since I am doing a closeup/macro table... I figured I better get a little extra now since there are no possibility of upgrades later. AMAZING how everything is compacted behind that super thin display screen.

The M3 iMac guts are behind the CHIN of the computer, under the screen. They're essentially the same components as in a MacBook Air or Mac mini. The speakers and mic array are different, and there is that 1080P webcam above the monitor, but most of the rest is similar to M1 and M2 Airs and minis. The mid-range and top tier iMac models also have two fans, two standard USB-C 10Gbps USB4 ports in addition to the two Thunderbolt3/USB4 ports, an Ethernet port in the power brick adapter, and Touch ID on the keyboard.

Yep. I'm running the same. So far, it's smooth.
Have the same but the M2 Pro Max.
Pricey but flawless workflow and a huge, huge step above my Asus gaming pc, even with it's 2TB internal SSD and 64G Ram... Like night and day.
