I arrived at 7:00 AM in San Jose with my tour group scheduled to meet that evening. I checked in to the hotel and then used local guides to show me around the city. Other posts will show what I encountered on the tour, but this is a sample of the sights I encountered the first day. I also took bird and critter photos in the city that I will post later.

The grounds of the University of Costa Rica contain a forest that is managed by the University's Biology Department. Experiments on new growth and effects of non-native growth are conducted in this area as well as a butterfly nursery. The first shot show an emerging forest in the middle of the city.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Nice, Mike. If I remember hearing it right, Costa Rica has more land, percentage wise, dedicated to national parks and nature reserves than any other country in the world. And they are making it pay for them in tourist dollars! Smart folks, I think!

You are correct about the move to protect their land. Very high percentage of protected parks and high requirements for development.
