Yeah, that is the argument. "What's the difference between a human being and a machine?" It is a pretty disturbing line of thinking.

I *IS* disturbing...

If you'd had a glimpse of the things I've seen...

Hi,

I do not use any AI site, I work completely offline... I've downloaded and modded the open source software and also the models.

Everything is open source, no "setup.exe", no support but the forums. If it doesn't work, you fix it.

My system runs on Ubuntu Linux 22.04, a i9-13900 CPU and a Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU (air cooled)

I'm heavily using Satability AI's Stable Diffusion (modded), and ComfyUI (also modded) as a Workflow Manager and UI because of the flexibility. I also use a bunch of python scripts written by myself.

This is the workflow that created the pseudo-photos (as you can see, it's currently running):

Ah a purest, I use that in the most complementary sense. Perhaps your knowledge and skill can be a moderating influence it this discussion.

How is that different than posting about another art medium, say painting, and claim it is to inform photographers what is going on in making paintings, maybe photorealistic paintings to tie it in with photography?

Because this is a tool **many** pro photographers are already using.

Mostly advertising and product photography... some big agencies are building AI departments specially devoted to create high quality customized images.

Image an island of happy people drinking Coke... on a tropical island which resembles a Coke bottle. Now imagine it was created in a couple of hours without models, location, props, Photoshop nor CGI.

Thanks. I need to study that a bit!

Advertising also uses illustrations, which have the same advantage. They aren't photographs either.

Of course they are not... but as I've said many pro photographers are already using the AI tool.

Also, Photoshop's new generative fill feature is exactly that... and it is specifically targeted t photographers.

No matter how you look at it, it seems to belong to the photographer's toolbox. Maybe you have a job to shoot a wedding, but the background is boring or unpleasant... well just create a new one.

... maybe later one you have to erase the groom altogether ... no problem either

I don't think it belongs here or the photo gallery, it belongs in the AI section, because that's what it is about.

On any other forum that would be true.

This is UHH where we have a separate section for just about anything, but everybody does whatever they want.

Admin doesn't seem to care, so I don't understand why we have all the different sections.

Don't worry about it.

I agree that using AI to process photos should be in the photography section. I've used generative fill myself. But these are totally AI generated images, and those aren't photographs. There are already people who seem to believe any image that comes from a computer is a photograph.

But Admin does often move posts to other sections. I made a post of an example of using generative fill, and Admin moved it to the photo gallery. Meanwhile, he doesn't seem to move posts about totally AI images. I wish there was more consistency.

Have you been using the "Report Issue" button to alert admin?

Of course. Eliminate having to pay people, and profit from the work people have already done. That what is driving the development of AI, not "creativity" nor "progress."

Yes, it is fascinating. Yes, it's domination is inevitable.

The "AI Artistry and Creation" section description says "This section exists to allow the display of AI produced images that are not related to photographic manipulation or post-processing". Seems pretty clear to me, these AI images, as interesting as they are, don't belong in the Main Photography Discussion section.

The images don't
The discussion does

Does it really matter that much to you. Seems most in this discussion are focused more more on the subject than where they are reading it. If you dont want to see it just click past it and move on.
I think its fascinating, whether its 100% photography or not. As someone pointed out, Photoshop already has an AI tool, tomorrow there may be 3, or heaven forbid 4 new AI tools. Are photographers going to stop using Photoshop or Lightroom. I think not. 'Purests' just won't use the tool, but I bet many won't be able to resist.
