The Japanese surrendered ending WW II (known to the millennial generation as World War 11). This is my interpretation of the Light Cruiser USS Birmingham returning home. Ship image from official US Naval records Background from my shot heavily processed in ACR, Topaz Studio 2.

Moody returning to the USA base... well shown. I am old enough that when young WW2 was the constant cloud.

Wow. A dark day for many reasons. You've captured the dark day very graphically, well done. I especially like the soft white clouds of morning.

A good day to commemorate Jack and the image works well, if a little dark - but I know it’s intentional, so I won’t complain. Nicely done.

Thanks. I don't remember much about the war but I do remember my dad coming home. I didn't like him very much at first

Thanks Dave, I like moody which usually means dark. Except where humans abound, Fear not the darkness for then mysterious and wonderful things abound.

An intriguing image, Curmudgeon; interesting to look at!

I wonder if the image wouldn't be stronger pictorially with the ship moving towards the bridge, rather than away from it.

(But that wouldn't be "realistic". I think your bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge and having the ship turned around would say it's leaving home rather than returning....)

Thanks for looking and commenting. She is coming home from Japanese waters and has just passed under the Golden Gate bridge

That's what I figured. So having the ship going the other way, i.e., moving towards the bridge (a stronger image, I think), would not show her going home.
