Unless you’re trying to make a living doing it, just remember that the only person you need to please is yourself. That’s the advantage amateurs have over professionals, we can do it because we want to, not because we have to. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! You can learn a lot here. I also love to take nature photographs. For portraits, I usually use 85-120mm, aperture wide open, and use natural, outdoor lighting with the background at least 15 feet away. There is no end of photo knowledge and opinions on this site, so post some photos, let us know any questions you might have, and what types of portraits you are interested in taking.
