One of my favorite places to photograph birds in my area (San Diego County) is Santee Lakes. There are large numbers of year round birds, but during the winter the numbers of birds (both individuals and species) swells considerably. I went down to attempt to photograph Cedar Waxwings; normally in early December they are present in large numbers feeding on Pyracantha berries. Unfortunately this year, not to be; at least so far. Going to plan B I was able to capture some of the resident birds and came away with images that I thought were worth processing. Some of these are cropped with a 16:9 ratio as they will be showing on a TV that I have dedicated to bird images.
All images shot with Canon R5, 600 f/4.0 with 1.4x extender, off tripod. SS varied but between 1/3200-1/5000, ISO 250-500, f/5.6, EC of -1.0-2.0.
Excellent work! BTW your photos were one of the reasons that I traveled to Costa Rica.
You didn't find the Waxwings but you sure got some great shots.

Beautiful shots, bajadreamer. I particularly like the background contrast in the first two.

I take that as a very nice compliment. I hope you enjoyed Costa Rica and brought home some nice images. My wife and I love that country.

Thanks for looking and commenting. Maybe next month for the Waxwings. There are differences in migration times this year for a number of different species.
