How long did it take to buy more gear?

My Canon 28-135mm was about 23 years old. It was on my Canon EOS 2000. I transferred it to my 5D Mark II. Then I mounted it to my 5D Mark IV. It had gone with me to New York City, Terre Haute, London, Puerto Rico, Barcelona, Rome, Pompei, Tuscany, Sicily, Kushadasi, Mykonos, Santorini and Athens. Finally, after the lens has served its faithful best it can be relegated to the repair bench. I shall probably repair it as a do it yourself project. In its place, I was deciding between a Canon 24-105mm lens or a Sigma ART lens. With finances being tight, I opted for the Sigma. I have used it consistently for the last few weeks. I say that this lens provides a better image than the Canon.

But I am not sure why the 28-135mm lens is no longer made. It was a nice piece of glass.
It served me a a great walk around lens.

Another lens on my list is the 24mm Tilt-Shift lens. I will probably opt for a Rokinon since it is cheaper, but not by much.

Vinyl recordings disappeared almost overnight here in the 1980s. The transition to CDs was suppised to be more gradual, but it didn't work out that way.

My local camera stores purged their new inventory of mirror box cameras, lenses, and accessories just about that fast.

I still have and use my vinyl albums. It is even pissible to occasionally byt a new one at incredibly high prices. I still have and continue to use my mirror box cameras. But that market is gone for all practical purposes, regardless of what official announcementa have been made about specific retirements.

Madison Hardware famously became the "go-to" place for old Lionel parts when the manufacturer quit supporting older versions of their products. Perhaps B&H or someone else will become a center for older camera models.

But the transition is done.

I love my 28-135. I think it's the best all-round travel lens ever made. My local store has tried to get me to move to the 24-105 because of its newer technology. If it were 24-135, I might consider it! I hope my 24-135 never fails!

The 28-135mm lens is a great lens. I've owned mine for about 7years. They are available on the used market for about $200.

I was at Vintage Vinyl today, Thousands of new and old records. A few CDs, and fewer DVDs on their shelves. I see more Vinyl for sale these days than the electronic discs.

I have my two favorite zoom lenses on my old DSLR Nikons. I bought replacement back ups for them, one already in use since the old lens got "loose". I use them because their coverage "gets the picture".

As I told Santa today after I photoed him (with the only dedicated camera in the crowd), I dropped out to enjoy what I have.

The Sigma 24-105 f4 Art is a great lens, you will love it. Oddly I used it in all the locations you used your Canon 28-135 except for Terre Haute.

Thanks for the thumbs up on this glass. I seemed to score decently on this.

I will try to repair the old lens but only if I can. It doesn’t make a great deal of sense to bring it in and spend a small fortune. If anything I could give it away to someone who wants to learn optics.

Prices range from $200 to about $500 for a suitable replacement. That is too steep for me.

Love that Sigma 24-105mm in Canon EF-mount. I used mine along with my vast collection of Canon lenses when I was still shooting Canon, and also used it with a Sigma MC-11 adapter when I first moved over to Sony E-mount. Superb Image quality. Enjoy it. Cheers

A few shots with that EF-Mount Sigma 24-105mm lens from Scotland. Used on my 42mp Sony A7RII.

1) A double rainbow at low tide in the port town of Portree, the capital of the Isle of Skye, Scottish Hebrides Islands

2) A wedding couple in Scottish capital city of Edinburgh are serenaded by a bagpiper outside their church after the ceremony.

3) Kids play along the shoreline of Loch Shiel, in Glenfinnan, Scottish Highlands, the location of many scenes shot for the Harry Potter Movie Series.

Click on download to see better image quality in these shots from that Sigma 24-105mm lens in EF-mount.

Cheers and best to you.

I sold that lens used for about $125 about 10 years ago. Really, if you want other working version, why would you waste a penny more than just buying another used copy? I'm seeing online prices between $110 and $160.

As usual Paul, you always crank out a great deal of sense. But I was always fascinated with optics way back when I was in high school physics class.

I told my wife I needed a new lens. Instead of a Canon 24-105mm f4, I bought a Sigma 24-105mm ART at B&H. It is very crisp! I was in and out in 10 minutes. That is my record. It would have been 5 minutes if I didn’t add on a SD Card and a CF Card.

But I have had this lens for so many years. I think I bought it way back when with a Canon EOS Rebel 2000.

P.S.: If you are interested, you can come into NY and visit B&H.

I shot the Sigma during a weekend rental and trial. The new 24-105 L II is a better overall lens to both. The Sigma at a fraction of the price of the older Canon model, a better price overcoming some of the 105mm weaknesses of the Sigma. Alas, the older 24-105L Canon suffers from lens creep and a sad frequency to break due to that creep. You'll likely forget the 28-135 rather quickly ...
