nice captures. be careful, we wouldn't want you to have a "Blast" among those things that go boom
Used to hear frequent π₯π₯π₯s years ago, set off by all the deer there, but lately, maybe only once a year. They still have a lot of fenced-off restricted areas with a lot of signage π

This area is a very toxic place to visit. Munitions were manufactured there during WWII and up until 1960. Fisher-Calo operated an industrial waste treatment facility near here and is a company that is listed as one of the most hazardous super-fund sites ever identified by the EPA. The contaminants were neurotoxic and carcenogenic.compounds. I went there in the late 1980's for weekend reserve training and I saw familiar plants growing there that were almost frightening in size and partially buried 55 gallon drums of "something". I never went there again. Laport county, (where Kingsbury is located), is a small county in northern Indiana that contains 50 super-fund sites.

I never knew that. I heard that the site where you trained had/has/is a NO FLY zone. I wouldn't mind meeting up with any surviving old-timers to hear more about that. Never knew about the super-fund sites in Laporte County either. Been coming to the area weekends for more than 65 years, since I was a toddler. Who knew

Well then maybe you don't want to get blown up by ancient and unstable munitions OR start glowing from whatever was buried in the 50 gallon drums of something. I understand.

Itβs a really nice set Joe, but I am glad to hear you are not going back.

Thanks, Bruce. I visit the wildlife part several times a week when there, but they have now block off what used to be an exit to the area where all the factories and plants were. They use those read buildings now for a variety for a variety of warehouses and are quite busy. I couple large, quite new factories there churning out cables and conduit, bagging sphagnum --- and even a large group of greenhouses with amazing plants... I know that anyone with a business there or homes (some excellent ones) on the edge of the property are required to have water tanks - but absolutely NO wells πππ
