Some days are diamonds, and some are rust! The other day, working with my squirrels, was a diamond day. It was a cool day, and often, they are in hiding. I have learned to look up into the trees! However, today, upon arrival, I immediately saw two in a tree. Yeah, no having to call and beg for someone to come to work with me! Sometimes I think these guys get amongst themselves and say: "Yeah, it’s around time for her to come around. What’s our plan today?”

So, I did some work with the one, as the other said: “Sorry, no photos today!” Then, I went to the main area and discovered the assignment was tree work. Everyone seems to be huddled, with their tails curled. Guess winter coats are on backorder. I worked with several, and they enjoy going as high as possible. I think they like to test how far my lens will go. I seriously see smirks on some of these faces. The other assignment was action shots, but I failed that assignment as I have yet to master flying squirrels! The person who planted this area liked trees, so they are planted very close together, and consequently, the branches form a wonderful jungle gym.

My diamond moment came when I watched a squirrel scamper up a tree. Bingo! I have always been fascinated with tree holes. I have a good imagination, and this guy was heading straight toward one. I have a few shots of them going to a hole and then giving me an accusatory look or running in with his tail out. This one, however, did all that but added his twist and popped his head out and then, for several shots, stared directly at me! Talk about mugging for the camera! I wasn’t sure, however, what he was saying to me! I sometimes struggle to focus when they are so high up that I'm almost bending backward!

So, I was thrilled to capture it and just wanted to share. At least one of the squirrels will be warm!

Showing my age! It was one of my mom's favorite sayings as well. It helps me remember not every day will be perfect, but you can always hope for a better one the next time
