My A9 saga - or, down the adapter rabbit hole .....
Been shooting Canon since the film days. Currently have and shoot Canon - mostly for the great glass.
Been shooting Sony since the NEX3, A3000, A77II, A99 - mostly for the great bodies/functions.
Two friends have the A9 - one loaned me his A9 for a while with MC11 and LA-EA5 adapters. I am looking at the A9 for SPEED and future possibilities. I would love to have the A99 II - but they are quite scarce - and expensive when you find a decent one ! And, the A99II is a dead end for the future.
KEH had an A9 for $1500 with 10% off for the holidays ($1350) - so I pulled the trigger !
As far as I know now, my Canon 400 5.6 , 70-300 IS II work....my 400 DO does NOT work - my Sony 70-400 SSM II and Tamron 150-600 G2 work - supposedly @ up to 10 FPS - tho I have not really tried this yet - still using my friends loaner. I also have lots of Sony/Minolta screw drive lenses that I will continue to use with the A99 when speed is not important. The Sony 70-400 SSM II seems to work the best - but I will need to be using lots of CIZ with this lens as it is not long enough for full frame and extenders to not work with the adapter ??
If anyone out there is using the A9 with adapters with experience to relate I would enjoy hearing from you - maybe we can all learn something here.

Please forgive that I am reversing the roles here, but please clarify your experience of using the LA-EA5 with screw drive lenses. Does it work well with All ? Most ? Half of them ? To me, "works well" isnt the speed needed for sports, but just "pretty snappy" with no undue hunting.
Thanks for whatever news you can impart.

So far, works with NONE of MY screw drives - tho it IS supposed to work with some SONY screw drives ??.....that's why my A99 still has a future.

The LA-EA 5 only works with newer Sony bodies. For example, it works with the a6600 but not the a7iii. To make those Minolta lenses work on the A9 you need the LA-EA 4. I don’t know what kind of frame rate you’ll get from that combo. To be safe check the Sony support site. They have compatibility info.

I have a Sony A7S, A7 III and A7R V and use both Canon EF, Sony A and Minolta AF lenses with all three. After trying several supposed compatible Canon to Sony adapters the M11 adapter works the best and consistently. I use the modified
LA-EA4r adapter with the Sony A and Minolta AF lenses; works amazingly well. The specs page for the LA-EA4r shows it works with an A9.

You should look into the Sony RX10MIV. You could do away with all those lenses and adapters.
😜🤪🤣

LOL ......I am limited to 400 ISO on the RX10
Besides that, I get to use My favorite CANON lenses 8-)
The LA-EA5 works pretty well with screw drive lenses (I have several remaining from my a99 and a99ii days), but as was mentioned above, is only supported for screw drive lenses on certain bodies. The first bodies supported were the a7Riv and a6600; I believe all bodies since then have support and none before.

Yes, this IS how it works
On the A9, the MC11, and the Canon 400 5.6 seem to be working well even with 1.4X II ! ! This is f8 for exposure but AF seems very good anyway - unlike DSLR. This makes for a very light/compact 560mm ! BTW, Sony CIZ seems NOT working with this 8-(
Well, I just spent $500 more (than the $1350 the A9 cost me) for a used MC11, used battery grip and a used (extra) Canon 1.4X III = $1850 total which is what I could get a used A99 for - IF I could find one .... 8-(
