Does anyone think removing hydro-electric dams in the PNW is a good idea?

This country doesn’t make much sense anymore. I feel for my grandkids.

The world, and life in general (climate, energy/power, economy, border, hunger, poverty, war, religion, …), could all be fixed if we solved 3 major problems: anti-gravity, time travel, and reversal of entropy. I am surprised that the smartest person on the planet (“I know more about _____ than anyone.”) hasn’t stepped up to the challenge.

Rac? Dennis? cwp? I could probably come up with a few more suggestions, but not worth my time.

The smartest person on the planet wouldn't be caught dead in the attic.

That is why I am trying to stay out of it, I get tired of conversing with punch drunk liberals and conservatives.

Canada has a lot of hydroelectric power. Is all of it from natural flow or did your country engineer some reservoirs for power generation? If so, is there a movement in your country to undo those dams?

I don’t know the answers to your questions, but I do know there are pros and cons to dams. Flood control and power generation are obvious positives. The reservoirs flood land, but also create aquatic habitats and recreation. But I have also heard that decaying plant materials annually generate large quantities of greenhouse gases that offset the “clean” aspect of hydroelectric power.

Personally, I think electric “anything” is preferable to f****l f**l consumption, but convenience (or inconvenience) is an issue. My hybrid vehicle handles much better on electric power than when it switches to gasoline. My electric lawn mower is corded, and cord management is a nuisance. I like electric lighting vs candles or gas lanterns of old (apart from their romanticism). I like the concepts of solar, wind, wave, hydroelectric, geothermal, hydrogen and even nuclear for generation, thereby leaving our hydrocarbons for manufacturing rather than just burning them.

I am in favour of exploring energy concepts that will improve things for society; I don’t agree with sticking to old ways just because “it was good enough for grandad, dad and me, and should be for my kids.”
