First, and foremost, may you and yours be blessed this Thanksgiving and the coming holiday season.
This is one of my preserved dragonflies that I staged for a focused stacking session using the 50mm enlarger lens extended on bellows. Although it may appear to be smiling, it is a smile that its prey would rather not see up close for those mandibles are sharp and the dragonfly uses them with precision to dismember and devour the prey that it captures while in flight.
Great image. Its prey might not like to see their smile but they are more than welcome in my yard, especially in the fall when there are plenty of fungus gnats for him to smile about. Here's hoping that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thanks, Jimmy. Dragonflies are a welcome sight for me too. I collect species that are considered to be pests and dragonflies are wonderful and beneficial creatures. This one was given to me a few years ago and it is holding up well in preservation.
