I've had an RX10 IV since they were first offered and have used it in all conditions including falling snow and heavy rain with no extra protection. It is still fine and has no lens or camera damage. It's advertised as sealed against moisture and dust but not waterproof. The only precaution I've taken is that I always try to dry the zoom portion of the lens with a cloth before retracting it.
I also have an RX10MIV and I don’t trust the weathersealing nearly as much as I do on my Nikon and Olympus cameras.
I use a bread bag with a rubber band on each end of my telephoto, if it's raining. Never had a problem. Bread and rubber band brand names available upon request!
I did lose a film camera to salt water intrusion once when I sat in the splash zone at the Sea World Orca show. It became pretty obvious that it wasn't water resistant pretty quickly! Nor was I, incidentally!
I took my weathersealed camera and lens on Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls with no problems. At the time it was the Olympus OMD e5 mark II and the sealing on the new ones is even better.
