I have said it here before, lens technology is available to all lens manufacturers. I have also said that modern independent lenses are of excellent quality.
In my case I have always preferred the lenses made by the camera company for their cameras. At times there is a lens someone could need which is not made for his or her camera except for an independent lens maker, sometimes the budget does not allow to buy the lens made by the camera manufacturer.

Sigma, Tamron and Tokina are making very good optics at reasonable prices although I have seen the price of some Sigma lenses well above those made by Canon or Nikon. I remind you that Leica makes lenses through Panasonic and Zeiss through Cosina in Japan.

I bought a 150-600 Tamron zoom with my first stimulus check, $1200. Great deal for me and Farah from Woodlandhills camera.
Was like getting a free lens for my eagle photos.

Mine are nearly all Pentax. The ones I regularly use are Pentax. I do have 35mm and View Camera lenses of various brands as well.

I use Nikon with my Nikon, I use Sony with my Sony, and I have used Canon with my Canon.
Why do you ask?
These lenses were made specifically for my camera. Third party glass are produced to fit many many many camera's. I believe quality standards and better tolerances are available with OEM glass. It will also be worth more when you go to sell, third party glass looses much more value than OEM glass. Fact
The main reason for third party glass is that they are cheaper than OEM glass.

The way the business world is going these days, it is not a big surprise to see a company investing in a company related to their business.

That may be a rule to live by, but there are exceptions. When I did the research, I found that the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 for Sony was every bit as good on all levels as the Sony"G Master" f2.8 that cost $1,000.00 more. This lens has given me the most usage, and best quality images over the past two years than any other lens I own. I had the firmware updated by Sigma at WPPI after Sony came out with the A7IV. There is no question that some third party lenses are as good or better than OEM. To deny this is foolish.

I agree with azted. I have some Sigma lenses that surpass comparable Sony OEM lenses in IQ , sharpness and fast focus, are lighter, more compact and cost less .

I have currently 13 E-mount lenses covering 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox. And my Viltrox 16mm f1.8 lens has G-Master build and IQ quality and some features that my Sony lenses dont have, just a fact.

I sold both my Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM and Sony 85mm f1.4 GM lenses and bought the better Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN lens and the better Sigma Art 85mm f1.4 DG DN lenses which are sharper, faster focusing, lighter and more compact, and cost much less. All my Sigma lenses have excellent build quality and have held up under professional use as well as my Sony GM lenses, just a fact..

Anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't know enough about the best third-party lenses nowadays.

Here SAB MTF-standard sharpness tests results for over 150+ Fullframe E-mount lenses. Note how well the best third=party lenses match and even surpass many OEM Sony lenses.

I don't have a problem with 3rd party lenses. I have a few and I like them. But billnikon is correct, resale value is not there! I have been disappointed with Tamron big zooms twice. Not again, I won't buy another! Their smaller lenses are good to go, but they are definitely lacking in quality, especially at the long end above 400mm!
