I need to replace the battery in my HP Envy computer. I have the battery and know how to do the procedure to install. The instructions that came with the battery have a list of things to do and settings to deal with none of which appear on any screens on my laptop. Is there a procedure to follow after installing the new battery?

I've replaced batteries in several laptops, including an HP Envy. It was always a simple swap. Can you scan or take a picture of the instructions you're talking about and upload them here?
In the interest of speed for now I'll try to type it in. Set the power supply option first:Right click on the screen and select Property-> Screen Saver ->Power Supply-> Power Use Scheme-> Portable. It then says to unplug the computer and exhaust the battery and then recharge the battery, and to do this 3 or 4 times. This the exact wording and punctuation..

I don't see any options like that, but it looks like they're trying to get you to choose a power plan to maximize battery life, such as when the computer goes to sleep and when the screen turns off. For laptops, you can also dim the display when running on battery to save power. I wouldn't worry too much about this if you were happy with the way the laptop was set up before swapping the battery.
As for discharging the battery a few times, I'm not sure how necessary this is with lithium batteries. I'll defer to the expertson that. I seem to recall that my HP laptop has a way to calibrate a battery. I don't have time at the moment to look it up.

I don’t think it is recommended to fully discharge modern batteries. If it was my computer I would just go back to normal use after changing the battery and not discharge below about 20%
I got the battery change with no problems. Came on when I turned it on. It is presently charging no smoke or heat yet. Thanks to all who responded.

Happy for you that it worked. It can be like a whole new computer with a new battery

I recently replaced the battery in my laptop, an HP Pavillion Notebook, for the second time. I would follow the suggestion to fully charge the battery vefore the first use then use it, unplugged, until the battery reaches about 20% charge then re-charge to full. The instructions with my most recent replacenment recommends doint that about once a monyh to prolong battery life. I did not follow that for the first replacement and the battery only lasted about a year and a half. Of course battery leife can also be related to the amount of use the computer gets.
Thanks. Got the battery in and running ok. I will do the charging method you recommend.
