No crown was visible on this bird. Merlin says that only males display the crown, and they are prominently on display only if the bird is agitated. So, either this is a female, or it was in a relaxed state. Merlin also describes the bird as hyperactive. Very accurate description indeed - it was a challenge to get even a couple of shots in focus. Happy to be able to shoot any birds at all past mid-November!
