I now have a Nikon Z50 camera. When I download photos (using a card reader) to my computer there is always a red circle with an X in the circle with the folder (bottom left area) where photos are found. When I process photos in photoshop and save them, each photo has that same red circle with an X in it. Can someone enlighten me as to why this occurs and what I can do about it? Thank you for your help.

Are the folders with your photos synching with your One Drive? I have my desktop synching, and when I put photos in a folder there, there is an X by the folder until synching is complete. Then it becomes a check mark, and then it goes away. I don't have any other folders (like in my documents) synching because my One Drive would start to fill up.

I use a card reader and file explorer to save the file folder to my desktop. Then I process the the photos in photoshop cc.

From other's posts, I believe the anomaly is from One Drive, not your download process.

One Drive is a Microsoft cloud backup system/method.
I believe it's active by default, at least in Windows 11.
I turned One Drive off because it cluttered the device path (directory list) window in Explorer (left side) too much with redundant directories. Plus it was saving whatever it felt like saving.
If I want to use my/our One Drive accounts I manually log in to save stuff.
Darn software thinking for me.......

One drive is free cloud storage you get with Windows. You get 25 gigabytes free. With so little storage, you have to be careful about what you allow to be put there. You don't want to automatically synch everything on your computer or it will fill up very quickly. It even makes sense to turn all synching off. You can log in and put things there manually if you want to share with a link. You can create links to folders and send them to your friends.
If you subscribe to Microsoft Office, the storage capacity goes to 1 TB. That's what I have. I allow my desktop files to synch, but I have all other synching turned off. I keep quite a bit of stuff on my One Drive, but other than my desktop, I decide what goes there manually. It's great for sharing photos with others.

try this
select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area, and then select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon
then click then Settings.
Go to the Account tab.
Select Unlink this PC.
