Unusual situation, but that IS LIFE. You did not mention any vision problems in the opposite eye. From your description, I believe your doctors believe you will be OK. However, it is always best to be prepared.
At this time I would suggest you practice.
I am left-handed and use my right to "shoot with" my left eye's vision is 20/400 {way worse than bad}. So you know I've used Veew cameras [5X7" sheet film], "Press Cameras [4X5" sheet film], 35mm range finder, full-frame 35mm SLR's [many models], Medium format [several models], Several models With success.
At first, it will be difficult to do the complete opposite of a habit developed over your lifetime; but if you have the desire to continue with photography and the worst happens you will learn to do it. After a while, the new system will seem normal to you. So, my suggestion is to Practice now and frequently for a while a few times a day for several minutes. So, when you have the surgery you will be able to do it well either way!!!

Thanks :) I've been on a chemo pill for the last 3 1/2 months and my eye area has completely closed up, although I have side effects (hair loss, muscle cramps, altered taste, etc.). My doctor is thrilled, but he hasn't told me for sure I'm cancer free yet. I leave this morning to go to SFO to see my baby grand niece during spring break (I'm a school bus monitor for special-needs).

I am naturally left-eyed, and cameras seem to be designed for the right eye. On the Nikon mirrorless I turn off the touch screens, but the Z50 has touch controls for zoom which stay on even after turning the screen off, and I am constantly bumping the zoom with my nose. Not a problem on the Z8 which has real buttons, but I have tried to switch and it's very much like being right handed and trying to throw a ball with your left. "Clumsy" might be one way to describe it...
I guess it is possible to adapt if you have no other choice.

I am naturally left eyed and I have shot using left eye ALL my life with DSLR viewfinder. No big deal... Now, my right is bad because of botched cat. surgery and I am SO glad I have used left all this time... It's NOT a big deal; be glad you still have vision and adapt. I have a brother 10 years younger than me sitting on a couch as we speak looking at the back of his eyelids.... Diabetic Retinopathy. Be thankful you still have vision. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm insulin-dependent myself and use a pump. At my annual eye exam a week or so ago the doc discovered retinal hemorrhaging. Now I'm going to have to see another ophthalmologist (had 2 cataract surgeries a couple years ago). I'm falling apart at the seams!
2 Weeks ago I had a small bleed into my right [dominant eye left eye is 20/400 partly corrected with glasses] Last Thursday My granddaughter was in a High School Play. I shot the play mostly using my left eye without difficulty since it has autofocus [and almost all were in focus and I shot hundreds {I did NOT know how they would turn out so I shot many photos}]!
They turned out well only suggestion:Don't do as I did practice ahead of time so you know what you need to change in your techniques. Example: I brought a small flashlight with me but could not use it {to adjust since the camera over ruled my settings}because it was too bright and did NOT have any modifiers>
So, simply practice and adjust and you will be OK. Unless you are legally blind in your new shooting eye.

Since I started the thread i went on a chemo pill instead of surgery, which Medicaid is paying for (@ $10,630/mo!!!), and, even though I'm still taking it at a lower dose due to side effects, I think the cancer is (IMO) pretty much gone. The area used to be scabby, pussy and slimy and would bleed at the slightest tough. Now it's all closed and I have like some white scar (?) tissue under the skin where it was open. My dermatologist is thrilled....now I had my annual eye appt and they found retinal bleeding! I have an appt with an ophthalmologist next Monday - seems like I can't catch a break!!!
