The camera controls take a little time to learn but the results are good. These images are heavily cropped.

Telephoto is where the Samsung S21/22/23 have a big advantage. Can't comment on the I-Phones...never had one.

Generally speaking, an iPhone will do well if given enough light but I can say from experience that a Samsung S21 will stomp my iPhone 12 Pro Max into the ground in low-light high-zoom conditions.

Beautiful capture. They look like they are posing for you. The Sony did a great job.

I’m impressed with the Sony. If it wasn’t for the fact that everything I have is Apple, I’d be tempted to switch to either the Sony or the S23. Those are amazing images.

Other than ". . . .heavily cropped" what (if any) post-processing was done?
These images are really good.

I PP all images, either in the camera using "Photos" or some times "Snapseed" or straight from the camera to "Capture One". I process a lot of images, mostly not posted, just for practice or fun. I don't keep track of the edits and they vary by image but are usually similar. I save originals until reviewed.

The three images are what I consider a usual edit.

First as the camera records it. My preferred FL is 85 or 125mm (equivalent), camera on a tripod, triggered remotely. I shoot jpg, continuous shutter (camera does raw but not in CS). When processing in camera using "Photos", the camera selects one from the group. I assume its the best, but I don't see any difference. With "Snapseed" and "C1" I select the images to be processed. All non-selected images are deleted.

The second shows the crop, in C1. Adjustments usually are lowering brightness a little and sharpening. No sharpening on this one.

Third is final results.

As a side note: The phone has three camera/lenses; 16mm, 24mm and 85-125 zoom. Beyond 125 is digital to 350mm and all intermediate FLs are crops of the previous lens, except the 85-125 range which is a zoom lens.

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra the Sony is smaller and lighter and has a greater screen resolution, camera controls are similar to a Sony camera. The Ultra has excellent telephoto, 10X to 30X is awesome. It also has a higher pixel count (digital magic not actual pixels) but is limited to when it can be used. If the 2024 release fixes some of these limitations I may switch back.

I got carried away adding the Ultra to the post. Both are excellent phone cameras as are several others. If you are not comfortable with manual camera controls the Sony will disappoint, the Samsung will not.
