Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a Nokia XR21,
do any of you have any experience using one please?
I'd love to know your opinions, good or otherwise.
Thanks in advance.
Phil

I didn’t know Nokia was still making cellphones. My grandson had a Nokia phone a few years ago and I was impressed with the photos he showed me.

Hello and thanks for your reply,
The Nokia XR21 is waterproof, dust proof, drop proof and seems virtually bomb proof.
The main camera is 64mp, it therefore sound ideal to take out when walking,
I'd just like to know that it's a good choice at £400.
Nokia still also sell the earlier XR20 with a similar build and a 48mp camera at half the price.

I’m sorry I couldn’t provide more information for you. About all I know is that Nokia does make good phones and the cameras have a good reputation. I’d say that if the phone lives up to the ads and specifications, at 400 pounds (sorry, I don’t have that symbol on my iPad) it’s a good buy, given that the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1100.00 US.

EDIT: Hey, I found how to make that symbol on a U.S. keyboard on my iPad Pro. It’s the option key and the 3 key—£.
Maybe this is helpful to someone else as well.

I'm very tempted but I've never even tried a phone camera.
I'll wait to see what Black Friday offers come along.

Well done on sorting your symbols out on the ipad.

I'm being nosey I know but I'm intrigued by your screen name?

I am a pilot. At least I was—flew in Vietnam, commercially and for the State of Alaska. And the Wing part is a salute to all the years I rode Honda Gold Wing motorcycles.

To answer your comment on cellphone cameras, early cellphone cameras produced images of mediocre quality and not good for much more than sharing online—selfies and all that, or a quick grab of something. The technology has advanced to the point where now they produce amazing quality images. They’re not for just a selfie or a shot of the grandkids’ birthday party, they’re capable of some very good photos. I think you can make very good prints, at least up to 11x14 from cellphone photos. Yes, they are limited, in that telephoto lens capability is still not great, but it’s getting better. Digital zoom still produces lousy images, jut by the nature of digital zoom and a tiny sensor, still, lenses are improving and no doubt a decent optical zoom is just around the corner. A good example is the Samsung Galaxy 23 (I forget the total designation). It has a very good zoom ability. The iPhone 15 Pro Max isn’t far behind.

All of that is to say that if you are thinking about going the cellphone route, check out the photos on the Smartphone Photography section on UHH. You might be amazed. That will at least give you an idea of what to expect. And a smartphone makes for a great backup camera.

Thanks so much for so much good advice.
At present for my go anywhere camera,
I use either the Tough Olympus TG6 12mp or the Lumix equivalent 15mp.
From what I have seen I would expect a good cell phone to be give better quality,
I'm hoping the tough Nokia XR21 will provide that.

Thanks for your help and good luck!
Phil

Some of the old army pilots have written books about their tours in Vietnam, but I left Vietnam in Vietnam.
