JSTARS is over... Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder...

Some weeks back there was an interesting UHH post about JSTARS (I live nearby and spent a few months supporting the program). Thought I would follow up with the last chapter, at Robins AFB, for this aircraft, its people, and its mission.

These pictures are NOT taken by me. The pictures and article, below, are from the Facebook page of the 116th Air Control Wing, Robins AFB.

✨Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder..✨
The last E-8C JSTARS aircraft, #9111, departed Robins AFB yesterday for the final time. This aircraft landed safely at Kelly Field, Texas, and will be used there as a training aircraft for many generations of Airmen to come. ✈️
James Ireson, former crew chief, and Jeremiah DeLoach, former instruments & flight control, both had the opportunity to marshal the departing plane. Both members were prior 116th!
Thank you to everyone that made this mission the success that it is. 💪

Thanks so much for posting - I was the poster of the JSTARS thread. Would have loved to get aboard them one last time.

Thanks again for your feedback. Feel a little better now so I will type a few words. I had planned to both attend the event and try to position myself to get some pictures in the air. I did not get to do either. I did see, as I got out of my car at home, them fly over the city... but there wasn't time to get my camera and get a shot.

I don't know as much about the new program/plane but I may get some stuff from the base and post some of that. The new plane/program is BACN (Battlefield Airborne Communications Node)... a much smaller plane/crew and I think they tweaked the mission a bit.
