My wife and I saw Peter Frampton at ACL Live at the Moody Theater this past Monday. It was a great show; the band played for about 2-1/2 hours! He played all his big hits, and some lesser known songs. He also played great covers of "Black Hole Sun" and "Georgia". The band jammed for almost 20 minutes on "Do You Feel Like We Do"!
Peter is suffering from inclusion body myositis (IBM), a progressive muscle disorder characterised by muscle inflammation, weakness, and atrophy. He and the rest of the band played seated the entire night. "Standing", he told Guitar World in September 2022, "would be dangerous for me now, because I get so carried away when I'm playing that I'm liable to fall over". Frampton continued, "It's starting to affect my hands, but not enough yet, so I can still play a good lick. But I'll be honest, I'm anxious about it."
This tour was the "Never Say Never" tour, as he did not think he would still be able to play. At the end of the show, he said he would keep fighting the disease and playing as long as he was able.
All photos taken with my "concert camera", a Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS80, at ISO 5000.
Very cool! Peter Frampton is one of the greats!
Just proves that you don't have to look like you just crawled out of a sewer to put on a great show!
Lucky you, he's one of the best. Really nice shots of a brave man.
Nice set. I never really cared for his music, though.
Nice set of concert shots!

Great set of photos you took of Peter. Peter Frampton is one of the greatest guitarists ever but is sorely under rated or appreciated these days. I own virtually every album he ever made. There might be one I don't have. I hope he can play for as long as possible. Be great if he were able to record yet another album. Thank you for sharing you wonderful pictures and your and Frampton's stories. I have known about his condition for several years.
I would never have recognized him! Funny how everyone but me is getting older…

Yes, the long hair is long gone for many years now.
Nice set! That Panasonic point and shoot does some great work.
From the time of "Framptons Camel" he had his trajectory laid out well. The excessive radio airplay after "Comes Alive" took away some of my enthusiasm for his work but those early days were special.
Wish him well.
That is some great image stabilization. Nice montage you put together. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics! He’s one of the best! When his album featured him glammed up with an open shirt, it hurt his reputation. It was a throwaway moment that his photographer suggested.
I really hope the disease doesn’t affect him too much
Fantastic concert images John! What did you shoot with?

I bought a little Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS80 to take to shows. Most of the venues around here will allow "non-professional" cameras, defined as not having an interchangable lens, and about the size of a shirt pocket. I got the Lumix because of its incredible optical zoom range (35mm equivalent) of 24-720mm. The down side is the maximum aperture range is f/3.3 to f/6.4, depending on the current zoom. I shoot in Aperture priority with the lens as wide open as it will go. I had a lot of trouble getting sharp photos with it at first, due to low shutter speeds. Then I discovered how to put the ISO into 'extended' range, and now shoot most of the shows at ISO 5000. Everything has to run through Topaz DeNoise AI at the 'Severe Noise' setting, but they come out looking pretty good.
