One of my volunteer photography "jobs" was as the official photog for a wonderful organisation called, United Way. The Original group was started in the US by Dolly Parton. The aim of the group was to get parents to read aloud to their young children, they discovered that this encouraged children to go on to higher education. I spent many very happy times visiting various places with some of Australia's best children's books authors. I really got to the love the kids and the activities we did. Here are just a few pics of some of the beautiful children I met over the years. The little African girl was a particular favourite of mine and she was literally attached to my leg when I was moving around the take photos..in the end I just handed her my camera and let her go...she thought that was great. A few years after I took the first pic of her with another girl at the blackboard, I met her family at another event at the Adelaide Zoo. She immediately recognised me and ran up to give me a hug. I was able to get a shot of her with her family.

Those are beautiful children. They remind me of my several years photographing school children for yearbooks. The ages ranged from preschoolers to high school seniors. Admittedy there were a very few who were troublesome (mosty in the higher grades) but so many than stole my heart and gave me joy just to photograph them. My absolute favorite was the litte kindergarten girl with very dak hair and eyes to match. I asked her where she got her beautiful dark eyes and she replied, "I don't know. They just growed."

Beautiful children, great story and great pictures Ron. It had to be a heartwarming experience.
Thank you Jo, yes, it was. I met and worked with some of Australia's most famous children's authors as well. Of all the volunteer photography I've done over the years, this was probably my favourite "job"... This pic shows Mem Fox, probably the most famous of the authors...
