It wasn't on Veterans Day...

...and it wasn't in the USA, but it is about a veteran and I heard Liam Clancy do this song live 50-years ago in Bundoran, Ireland. The song is something amazing...maybe you'd agree....

The first time I heard that song was at a Clancy Brothers concert around that same time period. It was written in 1971 by Scottish born Australian folk singer, Eric Bogle and has been covered by many artists. Bogle has written and recorded many songs in a similar vein including “The Green Fields of France” in which he relates the feelings of a writer as he visits a cemetery in France where many of the dead from WW I are buried. Bogle has an amazing gift of capturing the emotions of life’s tragic events. Just google his name if you’d like to hear more of his music.
