There are several reviews of the a9 iii on YouTube. One where you may want to start is with Ken Rockwell

I have seen the camera at a recent Sony event. It is an amazing camera. This camera is totally for professionals, unless you just have a lot of money. Eventually, I am sure many of its inovations will be put in Sonys other cameras, such as the global sensor. 120 frames per second is amazing but in a matter of a minute, that is over 7200 raw pictures on your card. Think of the culling time. Of course, there are lots of amazing creative things you can do with that spreed. The flash syncing capabilities are amazing, and that too may make it to less expensive cameras.

This camera is great for those in the need for its capabilities, but for the average photographer, it is over kill at the current price. Just in case you get a case of GAS.

At least with the Nikon Z9 129 frames per second actually makes less culling. It has a feature that alkows you to take shots up to a second before you push the shutter. So, if you out it in a tripod prefocused on home plate at a baseball game and then only push the shutter when someone gets a hit you save culling through every single pitch.

Many ither applications for that kind of frame rate including super slo motion video. Nothing says you have to use the frame rate but its really nice when you need it.

Yes, pre-capture is also in the Sony. I was thinking of the global shutter in the RX series. Having all that synchronization with a 1" sensor and 24-600 Zeiss lens. Now that is a traveling bridge camera!!

Im sure its a great camera and that lens would give you a great deal of flexibility. I was pretty sure it had pre capture akso. Thanks for confirmong that.

For me and just possibly I’m over thinking one thing that is a big negative for me
The low pass filter while it reduces “moray” patterns it also desharpens the image unless Sony has reconfigured the filter in such a way as to not reduce sharpness. Last note when I got my first camera minus the low pass filter I definitely noticed an increase in sharpness.

My mental challenge is remembering what I had planned to do today, and why I walked into a particular room.

Fortunately, my camera-buying is basically limited to Nikon, and I am all set. Of course, if Nikon makes a silver/black Zf, then I'll be one purchase away from being completely all set.

The a9iii also offers up to a second of pre-shot recording. And it does 120fps with full AE and AF, unlike the Z9.

But how does this make for easier culling? Oh that's right, it doesn't. What makes culling easier is the a9iii's ability to show those high-speed frames as a mini video that you can pause to easily zero in on the desired frame or frames.

And the A9III does 120fps in raw, the others only in reduced megapixel jpeg. And the A9III also can do its Precapture at any selectable time length and any selectable speed up to 120fps.

Cheers

While I love the published spec's especially universal flash synch, this is really a camera where i think you wait to see real world reviews. While a Global shutter has been somewhat of a Holy Grail feature, there are some trade-offs with them. Usually higher noise, lower dynamic range, higher base ISO etc, I think they have gone back to an AA filter..
Sony may have overcome ALL of those, or some of those, the best way to KNOW (in my view) is to wait and see people use it in the real world.
Someone had to be first with this, Sony did it, But Personally I'd wait

Some of these capabilities are really processing and I/O intensive. So we will also need to know what they do to battery consumption. As you say...there are no free lunches.

Newer, more efficient processors help greatly with battery consumption. And most pros will use this with the newer dual-battery grip. So really not a problem for those who will most likely be using this A9III .

Cheers and best to you
