I seem to be stuck on inverted images. This one, not a composite, was shot with a 400mm lens into the bright morning sun. THe specular highlights are water. The city in the background is Atlantic City. Shot from a wildlife Refuge on the Jersey Shore.

The clean lines of the cityscape + a single bird = quite an engaging result, Erich!

For me the white foreground shoreline detracts from the simplicity and appeal. I'd extend the dark water all the way down. Am on the fence about the rocks; they might be OK to leave in

I see what you mean; but I don't want the aspect ratio to become too severe. I'm going to have to think about that one for a bit. Thank you, as always, for your valuable input.

I had to look at this one for awhile. And I think that is a good thing. But I am still undecided how I feel about it. I do like the bird. For me it is the center attention. The white building background is unusual but not sure it does anything for me. Perhaps if the image was in color I would feel differently about it.

It's not often I disagree with Linda but this time my non-artistic eye says that shot is perfect just the way it is.

I like the abstractness of the image but like Linda, I think the bottom part is distracting.

I like the negative image treatment, a useful tool.

In your photo contrary to the title, the bird is flying to town... do a flip and the bird will be flying away from town. Remember we read from left to right. Right is the direction of the future "...consistent with the view that time is mentally represented from left to right." Shown by scientific study cited below.

So maybe I should start from the beginning. I was shooting into the sun and I really underexposed the image. So right from the start I was fighting an uphill battle. Plus, the bird was pretty far away and I had not zoomed in before I took the shot. (exposure taken at 100mm also not ideal) Then I noticed that I had caught the south end of a northbound bird. So, I decided to crop the poop out of the image and convert it so that you could not see what a hash I had made of the original shot. Finally I figured on a title that would justify shooting a bird flying out of the frame from the wrong end of the bird. Got lemons? You can always try for lemonade. lol

I think I'm going to keep the bottom as it is. The aspect ratio would be pretty extreme if I cropped any more.
