This past weekend I attended a Civil War Reenactment. They didn't focus on any one battle but more along the lines of demonstrations. I would say there were about 30 men and women who participated. So it wasn't really very big. But they did have two working canons. They did a demonstration of the steps to load and fire the weapon. Which they did.
This photo was shot from the kitchen as they prepared meals to fed the reenactors.
The ISO was at 2500. I ran it through LR denoise. I think it did a pretty good job of cleaning up the image.

It did do a good job on the noise. Good capture NJFrank. I like shooting these types of events. There is one close to Hammond Louisiana I used to attend on a regular basis It is at Camp Moore which used to be a training site during the civil war. I would guess about 300-400 reenactors, working cannons and black power weapons. All camped in tents and cooked on an open fire.

They are fun outing. My life found this one. They did a small mock battle. I guess more like a skirmish. I finally got around today to work on them. Right before I posted this shot I sent three to one of the reenactors. He posed for my shots. No need to tell him how to pose. He’s been doing this for 40 years.

The nice thing about reenactors is that they love to be photographed! I’ve only ever met one that was a little grumpy about it.
Modern denoise programmes cope well with ISO rates we thought problematical a while back - your image looks great Frank. It would have been wrecked with full flash, that’s for sure. Here the window light and the tungsten lamp blend into the image nicely. Your visit sounds very worthwhile, and thirty reenactors is plenty to provide some super shots - including, I’m sure, some that will appear in composites soon? That said, I really like this ‘working’ shot and its environment. Nicely done.

A photogenic setup with the window and all the lady's equipment. Fun to explore the details. The lamp light is really nice; is it electric, or some other source (oil?) authentic to the Civil War era?

Thanks Dave. She was ready to pose. But I told her go about your business. Forget I’m here. She followed my directions to a tee.
I was working on a composite. I didn’t like how it came out so I scraped it. Now it is back to the drawing board. But that is my usual process.

She was a good subject to work with. No sneaking a look to see what I was up to. As for the lamp. Good question I don’t think it is electric. This is Forsterfield, in Morristown NJ. Been around since the Revolutionary War. Though it is a working farm it is really more like a museum. They sell the chicken eggs that are layed. They have four cows couple of horses goats and pigs.

I’ve never seen a gas or oil lamp in the form of the uplighter top left Frank - and if we look right, just beyond the window we have an oil lamp with a suspicious-looking black lead going from the bracket to the lamp holder!

I was referring to the wall lamp. I don’t think that lamp is electric. That wire doesn’t really go anywhere. And I don’t see any wires coming down the wall to a socket. But hey it wouldn’t be the first time was wrong. I’m sorry I didn’t take a closer look at it. But I really wasn’t focused on the lamp.

It makes no difference either way Frank, it’s a great shot! But you can’t use an oil lamp tilted at that angle.

I have a friend who used to do reenactments. (He's on the winning side in the movie Gettysburg). Nice photo. Must have been fun seeing them fire the cannon.
