M. Zuiko Digital ED 100-400MM F5.0-6.3 IS Repair - 3rd party in US

My copy of the 100-400 lens has a loose front piece (about 2" long). There are 3 screws that attach the front to the rest of the body and 2 of them are missing. I want to get it repaired but OMS wants over $400 for the repair. This seems to be some sort of set price regardless of what is required. The lens has not been dropped, so I have no idea when the screws went missing,

Can anyone recommend or suggest an independent shop in the US that can replace the screws?

Alaska!! If I were you I would tape the lens together, remove the third screw, and photograph and measure the screw. Then reinstall the screw and do my dangest to find a place in the lower USA that would sell me some screws that might work.
Some of the people down here sell damaged equipment cheap that can be used for parts. If you can set the lens aside for a while and search on line I would bet that you will find something.
This assumes that you believe the lens is OK otherwise.
Most of the local camera shops have disappeared here (in St Louis), but I have found many things on line that can no longer be purchased locally.
With all the DSLR equipment now selling cheaply, I just set damaged equipment aside and buy used replacements.
There are people in the Forum that should answer your question directly. Good luck.

I have had lenses repaired by OMS. Their system is kind of odd in that you kinda describe the repair needed, which seems at odds to common sense given they have to diagnose it in many cases. One option may be to go back into the system and simply report that the lens is missing a few screws. The odd ball system may well charge a different price. That or call them in the am. Once I sent in a lens and they called me saying the repair was going to be massive. The thing was just out of warranty I demurred and said send the lens back (it was the focus clutch so the lens was still usable.) Oddly, it came back repaired. So who knows?

Give it a try.

I agree. I had an Olympus SP 550 sent in for damage from a fall (my fault) and I got back a reconditioned camera at no cost. The other issue I had was an OM in-warranty repair which cost me only the shipping. I agree that calling OM and talking to them may be the best option at this time.

Like someone said , tape , remove the only screw , see if you can find something close enough at hardware store , or on line .

I doubt you would find a screw this size at any hardware store. I'd have to know what metric size and thread pitch and head before I'd order online.

Amazon Mini Skater 23 Size Nickel Plating Tiny Eyeglass Screws Sunglass Spectacles Watch Repair Replace Micro Parts Assortment kit,1650PCS might be worth a try for $14, or there's a Camera Service Center in Anchorage that can probably come up with a couple of screws for a lens.

Why not just phone Olympus and ask if they would sell you the three screws.

Southern Photo Technical service in Miami, Fl. They used to be in D.C. 1 block from the White House and did all the Photjounalists repairs right on the spot.
