I guess that buying a quality product-Nikon Z mount lenses (or any other mfg); S or not-and the mfg claims of 'weather sealing'; really do not give me concern if I follow prudent advice and common sense use. Pros who shoot in extreme conditions, and use these lenses, are good enough for me. One of the foremost experts, in just about everything says....

You go, Alfred

Know thyself...always the key.
Not everyone uses their gear the same way...not everyone is careful...or thoughtful...or even bright...not everyone.

I have two friends who like to buy outrageously expensive cars...it's their...thing.
One beats the hell out of his car...then sells it to some poor up and coming 30 year old...who is about to learn an expensive life lesson.
The other friend babies his rides...intends to keep them a long while.

On the market...they look the same...they aren't.

Same with camera ppl. Only you know how to treat your gear...and weather sealing is not a concern for those who know how to take care of their gear...in the field.
Know thyself...always the key. br Not everyone u... (show quote)

I think for people that really use their gear weathersealing is pretty important, no matter how good they take care of it.

Only if they use their gear past safety sense.

Some don't have it...and pay the price.

I have plenty of weather sealed lenses...but I am sure as heck not going to take their word on it's ability to do well in inclement weather. There aren't even any industry standards.

These companies are selling this gear to professional photographers that use it in all kinds of conditions. If it wasn’t reliable the pros wouldn’t be buying it.

There is more of a tendency for dust to enter on a lens that externally changes as it zooms. Think suction. The faster you do it, (move it in and out) the greater the suction effect. If the lens is sealed properly, then you might be OK. ................
.
That is most very likely why I have no problems or complaints with "suction lenses". I often see users quickly pumping back and forth with the camera to their eye, obviously seeking their framing or composition while watching the effect one the view screen. Those must be the users plagued by the suction problem.

When I view a scene by eye I casually set my approximate FL without viewing the screen. On viewing thru the camera I might see the need for a slight change in FL ... and thaz all the zoom action invoved, an unhurried preset plus one small correction ... no pump-pump.

Acoarst those who feel pain at the loss of pixels when cropping in PP must fuss with the zoom-zoom, endeavoring to get their best framing in-camera. I spoze that they should probably avoid lenses that extend. I use a zoom as a oackage of just a few primes all in one can. I set one of those primes and then treat it like a prime ... just set a FL and then ignore that its a zoom. I feel no pain over lost pixels and dont need a 5 or 10% reduction in noise. A zoom lens is a convenience. If you get fussy with it then youre inconveniencing yourself. My own version of convenience is to get the best framing at my leisure, in PP.

It's reliable...I understand that already.

How reliable...it's all kept in a fog.

I just make sure I do my own due diligence...I'm not going to rely on their say so...that's for sure.
